Dispatching an armed force into a scene where the act may or may not turn out criminal is setting the stage for police escalation. Rethinking a paramilitary police force might be a desirable direction. Currently it seems every patrol believes it is a SWAT team. Disarming patrols might be better long term than defunding them. I have to agree. My grandpa was a police chief, and he was kinda famous in our little town for never carrying a gun. He said it just caused things to escalate when they didn't need to. Of course that was back in the day when if you were drunk and causing trouble they'd just take you home and tell your wife/mom to KEEP YOU THERE. And they did. Or they'd put you in the "drunk tank" and you could just get up and leave as soon as you sobered up. Things kinda worked better before they decided to start trying to give everyone a criminal record and empty their bank accounts. Terrierman 1

I seriously doubt that a cop is more likely to kill a black person than he/she is a white person, given that all other things related to the contact are the same. A white guy with his pants sagging down to the top of his crank, screaming "Oh heyll naw, you honky mufukkas ain't about hancuffin ME! And ya best gimme back dat blunt befo it goes out cuz I ain't about looking fo my Bic"...... ....is just as likely to get capped. fishinwrench 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Let’s get real. Antifa backed all these guys. Delivering stacks of bricks, instigating, etc. So less than one percent of cops are bad according to the studies. What percentage of protesters are bad? I think it's interesting that you're deflecting. If 1% of protestors are bad, that means police are beating and macing and tear gassing thousand of innocent people. All over the country. That's something you're comfortable with?

Where did you come up with 1%? If protesters aren’t playing by the rules they deserve it. If you read the last sentence of the first amendment pic I posted you will see that officials set the rules of protest as long as they do so in the confines of the constitution. George Floyd wasn't fighting, Breonna Taylor wasn't fighting, they both died. Neither of them get their day in court. If sleeping in your own bed is what gets you killed..I don't know what level of respect you need to display to prevent that. Do you? BS. Criminals and resistors are treated like criminals and resistors, regardless of color, race, or income. Yes, cops occasionally make mistakes - all humans do. The results are tragic when these happen - EITHER when the cop dies, OR an innocent civilian. I would wager that many many more cops die as the result of mistakes than innocent civilians. And just how many physicians have been treated like LEOs when mistakes occur? Why not? No other profession other than LEO is expected to be perfect, or be attacked by the MSM. Except maybe GOP politician... Mike Mitch f 1

The taxpayers (that's us) cover it for them. The Brandon Ellingson family got what....14 million+ ? George Floyd's family will get a fat settlement also. So probably not a good year to cry for tax cuts. Yes, we sponsor those boys in blue, gray, and tan, so their deadly mistakes hurt us all.
