Change out the "protruding pipe" with one that will allow it.   Or drill out the nipple so it will go over the protruding pipe.   

I haven't attempted to change one out yet....but I'm sure it's possible.

No problems... I am reading thru & have a similar issue with the Yamaha. it is barely adjusted to discharge the stream to the starboard side, BUT just barely to starboard. I'd like mine to be MORE obviously starboard.

I finally returned the one I bought.  I would’ve had to drill it neither totally out and I don’t think it would’ve worked after that.
