Members Sandhills Hunter Posted June 23, 2020 Members Posted June 23, 2020 The wife and I are visiting friends next week in Willard, MO. We've been looking at land for sale near Lake Pomme de Terre. Is there any places we should avoid. Hopefully I can retire again in a year or two and move up there. Thanks
Dutch Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Personally I’d live in Bolivar. Then I could go to Pom or Stockton easily.
MOPanfisher Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Depends, if you think more toward LOZ then you have Pomme, LOZ and Truman, if you want to be on a major highway for easier access to major hospital maybe toward buffalo (add Niangua River) or bolivar (add stockton, if a nicer home already built definitely Bolivar) if you are looking to buy a small acreage and stay away from people then about any direction. If you are wanting a private dock, well save your money and buy a nicer house. Where I live I am right in the middle stockton, Pomme, Truman and a little further to LOZ, not exactly a metropolis or area with much if any job opportunities, but where I was born and raised. Members Rick Baker Posted June 25, 2020 Members Posted June 25, 2020 We’ve owned our farm outside of Willard for almost five years now. Couldn’t be happier with the school system. Last year we had our toy hauler parked at a very nice resort on pomme lake. Corps makes you take your camper off of its pad for three months during the winter. During that time we found a cabin we liked on the river below pomme dam. We really like it and it’s location. We can fish the pomme river with a short walk. Very short drive to fish Truman or pomme. And i don’t mind making the drive to Stockton. We really like it so far. All the small towns have grocery stores or st least a dollar general. As far as the lake goes, I like the lightfoot area the best.
MOPanfisher Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Shush, the Lightfoot area is BAD, and about 10 minutes from my house. Unfortunately no crappie, walleye or white bass live on that side of the Lake, honest I wouldn't lie to ya. Terrierman, kelbrand and Heretolearn 3
Members Sandhills Hunter Posted June 25, 2020 Author Members Posted June 25, 2020 Thanks for the help. I'm in my 50's and looking for a place for when I retire, which I hope is not too far off. Looking for a lot .5 -1 acre, possibly larger depending on the price, that doesn't have a HOA.

oneshot Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 Don’t buy in Wheatland just too noisy with Car Races. Now we did have a place 5 miles North and loved the area but hated the house. We now live by Bennett Spring State Park and like the area. Pomme de Terre Lake is about 30 miles from here. We have a place by Truman Lake, like it there and really need to spend more time there. I would consider living on the West side of the county. Pomme de Terre, Stockton and Truman. All good Lakes. oneshot
Members Sandhills Hunter Posted May 23, 2021 Author Members Posted May 23, 2021 It took us a while but we bought a place in Polk County. Should close on it next month. Thanks for the help. Krazo, Heretolearn, tjm and 1 other 4
