rps Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 Went out today at 10. Came in at 3. Not a single bite on HD Helgramite, Keitech, or Ned. Thermocline at 30 feet. Never found schooled baitfish. As a result I did much exploring and sonar mapping. I found a feeder creek cove of interest. At its mouth the channel is 35 feet deep and the channel edge is lined with timber. Near the end the channel is 10 feet deep and still tree lined. In between you have about 400 yards that bends in a U while it gradually goes from shallow to deep. The feeder creek cove sits on the North side of the lake. The lake is not clear, but you can see a white spinner bait at 4 to 7 feet. Please share how you would approach/attack the creek in each season. Big Keene, Daryk Campbell Sr, Ruger5555 and 1 other 4
wily Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 I would keep it simple and fish the creek channel edge...with a Tx rig worm...looks like the trees are old and dead. So cover is on the bottom. if you think the trees are intact...still fish creek channel edge...but I would use a jig and trailer...pitch it out past the tree and Pull it back to you...drop it straight down. The fish are most likely suspended in the branches. A bluegill color might be good. A fluke works good on fish suspended in tree tops too fish should be in that creek all year long...You can drag up shallow on the left side in the spring and fish moving baits over there With spinnerbaits and crankbaits in fall. fish the bluff or 45 degree side in the summer/winter with a jig in the summer you’d be better off fishing a bank that is shaded...I think the creek channel is the key...follow it to the depth...just like the bass do

Good start to the thread.

rps Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 I fished this creek today along the channel break. I used a neko rig. I discovered it is excellent for fishing timber; as good as a Texas rig. What I did not discover were fish. It was a hard day.
