What's the MPX all about?

I wish SA made a short taper line similar to the Rio Outbound short.

SA trout lines can last that long, or longer.  My RIO warmwater lines though....3-4 years max.

I don't bother with soap anymore, just hot steamy tap water and a dish towel.

Actually, after thinking about this the only SA lines I have now are Wulff TTs that I bought not long after Lee died. All my DTs are Cortlands that I bought in the mid 90s; one box is (Peach)  marked $24.95. These lines have lasted longer than I thought. I do recall the 70-80s when I used "line dressing" and "line cleaner" from the manufacturers and three years was about the limit. part of that is due to me only fishing 40-50 days a year as I mature.

That peach DT is probably original 444.

I have a 444SL WF that is nearing 10 years, and still fresh.  On a trout rod of course. I haven't seen the end of the belly on THAT line since I spooled it on there. 🙄

Speaking of "line dressing".....Rio Agent-X is the best stuff on the market.  Takes all night to apply it, but that is the real deal.  I'd love to know what it really is because I want a gallon of it.

Striper sperm, Turtle wax, and silicone?

Wrench read up on those silicones, I believe they are all pretty much the same stuff with different labels. I did read about  them some time ago but can't remember why and I just recently saw the Danco grease touted as a fly fishing necessity, either as line treatment or fly floatant, maybe both. I failed to take notes again.

Yes I know.  I use silicone lubricants alot, daily, and I have used them on flyline before.  It's good for an hour or two.  There is something in Agent X that gives it a light blue-green tint. I'm sure that silicone is the main ingredient but there's something else in it that causes it to stay attached to (or absorb into) the line, and noticably last for a month or more.

What's the stuff that Frogs Fanny is made of?    I've heard that you can buy that stuff by the 5lb. bag for next to nothing.

Most everything in fly-fishing/fly tying is not made specifically for fly fishing....it is repurposed.
