What width and length is your shawnee? If its a 20x48" a 25/20 will be fine.

One thing to keep in mind is if this is the original style shawnee it has quite a bit of rocker built into it and the boat will NEVER go fast.

I had a similarly built JS 42" wide bottom many years ago and I wanted more speed so I put a 25hp(prop) on in place of my 9.9.  I netted 2mph gained and way worse fuel economy.

Exactly.  It's not like it's going to get up on pad.....

The old style river boats are really displacement style hulls, meaning they dont really plane out as much as just go.

Thanks for all of the advice, I am not looking to go fast, just trying to get up the river to float back down and fish.

what is your budget? I see 25hp jets often on faceplace for under 2k, but I suspect those days are about gone.

Logperch is his OA Forum designation.  His handle is Bushbeater

We can fish some time. I probably won't be river fishing till late Feb. or early March though. I live across from Tonka Cove and typically run upstream from there. If the river is flowing well I've made it to the pool below Lake Niangua dam.
