Hope you are all doing well.  It's been half a decade since I've been on the forum.  Life has been busy.

I've got a 5 year old and a 1.5 year old now.  The boys are getting older and it's getting closer to time to move from just fishing on the creek to hitting the lakes.  I'm in the market for a deep V and am looking at one that has a 2020 200h Evinrude HO.

To some extent it seems like motor brands are like Ford vs. Chevy, and each era and size has their plusses and minuses.  I'm aware that Evinrude motors are no longer being made, but assume that parts and warranty service will remain available.  This particular motor has a 7-year warranty in place.

I've always had Yamahas and have never had any issues.  The only reason I'm considering this boat is because it's ultimately a "good deal," but the motor on it is what it is.  Obviously 2020 is pretty new so not a lot of track record out there, but does anyone have any strong (and educated) feelings one way or the other on the new Evinrudes?

Hey guy! Good to hear from you.

@fishinwrenchwill be able to answer your questions.

I  am a strong Evinrude ETEC fan. My present boat and the one before are/were powered by one for 11 years and counting. No repairs and minimal maintenance (300 hours between service). If I were going to buy a boat tomorrow, I would figure out a way to put one on it.

I don't know alot about the 2020 models.   My specific (intricate) knowledge of any outboard ends at around 2012.... because that's about the age when they first start coming to me.

So, with that disclaimer out of the way, I'll just say that Evinrude has HANDS DOWN the best track record of dependability and smart design of any outboard ever manufactured.   And even though they have stopped selling new outboards I wouldn't hesitate buying one for a second.

I would absolutely buy a newish Evinrude 200 before I would even consider buying a stupid 4-stroke from any of the other big 3 manufacturers, because their track record is pathetic in comparison.

I have a 2013 150 with over 400 hours on it. Usually average a bit over 200 hours in between my 3 year service interval. Been a great motor and it sees use nearly every weekend. This past year I was experiencing a fuel starvation issue at high RPMs and the fix ended up being to replace the fuel lift pump. Motor was beyond the 5 year warranty period so I had to pay for it, but I guess I can't really gripe too much since I had ran the dog pee out of it for 6 years before having an issue. I'm planning on running this one till she blows or I sell/trade the boat in for a new one.

I’ll beat the crap out of a 90 horse Etec on a duck boat. It was a beast! Every now and then it got to having a stutter at wide-open throttle. Turned out to be a $60 sensor that I replaced. When it was time for a new motor I bought a 150 Etech -then they quit making outboards two weeks later LOL

I'll bet ya $100 that those motors will still be out there pushing boats around long after everyone has forgotten what a Verado or a ProXS even was.

250 HO 6 years without a hiccup on wife's tritoon.

I drove 9 hours to buy an etec on my fishing boat, as around here they were all rigged with mercs.

Great motors.

Little old 18 hp Evinrude rolled into the dock on the TN River this weekend pushing a 1548 Jon Boat.  Probably from the 60's, maybe early 70's.  Ran like a top.  I did make the comment that you never seem to see many old Mercs as we drifted on down the river.

Mercury Marine has no desire to see their older motors keep on going forever.   They stop supplying parts soon after the warranty expires,  in hopes that you'll just go out and buy a new one.   Yamaha does the same thing (aquiring pre-1990 parts for a Yamaha is a crap shoot).
