I live in St Charles and know lots of guys who used to go up there. It never was a great bass lake and when the crappie all stopped growing at 8-9 inches everybody quit going. Not sure I know anyone who goes up there anymore....
willyfish Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 Me and a buddy were just talking the other day about going up there last week in May or first of June. I don't know of anyone that goes anymore either. It seems like a catfish lake from what I hear. The crappie were good at one time but its like it got fished out and never bounced back. Every once in a while you will hear about some bass being caught but its rare. It has turned into a mudhole from what I understand. If we go I'll report what I see or hopefully catch. snagged in outlet 3 1
willyfish Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 Where would you guys dump the boat in if you were going to Mark Twain? I was thinking Ray Behrens because its by the Dam and might have some water that isn't quite as dirty. That might be a pipe dream though.

I drove over the salt last week and it was mud and really jumping.

I always preferred the South fork ramp because it has the best access to the lower Middle and Elk fork arms.....which is where you want to be in the Spring. It is also the quickest area to settle down and clear up (if you can call it "clearing"). Forget that the lower end of the lake even exists, and you'll do better on MT.
willyfish Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 I'm guessing spinnerbait crankbait jig is the deal with the water color? I would imagine crappie jigs and minnows is what most of these bass see.

That is about as good a tip I'll ever get for this pond, thanks
