Well KVD pulled it off.  He fessed up at the end to what he was using.  The reel, being what we were most interested in, was a Lew's BB1 in 6:4:1 ratio.  28 inches per turn.  He also was using a Lew's rod, but I didn't get what model it was.  5XD on the last day in Blue Gizzard Shad.

You beat me to it Jeff. I heard em say it was a 6.x:1, couldn't remember the x part. It looked to me like Saturday morning he was using one of his signature Lew's rods.

He got her done. Would have bet the farm he couldn’t do it. Said Rod would be available at a later date

I always figured these guys used the 5.x:1 reels on those bigger cranks, but it sounds like most are using 6.x:1 or even 7.x:1 reels. Couldn't imagine throwing some of those big cranks on anything faster than the 6.x:1 reel.

Client I took trout fishing today went with a TR Guide on Wednesday. Said the guide simply hammered them on a deep crank while they sat there dangling crawlers.

Not real impressed with their day with him, but good info on the lake crank bait bite for the rest if us.

Some guides fish other things to find out what the fish are hitting on that day to help the client out.

sometimes just as with what is going on in the country, there are people that you just have to show them.

When I took them they didn't need to be shown, just given the chance.

They were good fishermen from Minnesota, and yes we are always trying to find a better bait to keep them catching fish.

Its usually nice when you let them use it however and don't stand there catching a fish cast after cast. 🤔

i totally agree bill.  the trip is all about the customer catching fish, not the guide.  sometimes, you do have to find a technique that matches up with the particular client's fishing capabilities.  ever have to cast a clients rod each cast???  i have been there.  but, you just try to make the best of it and they catch a fish or two.
