Anybody else have problems with the Ultrex deploy cable. I never liked how it pushes against the primary power cable going to the head. But now I noticed the plastic coating on the cable has worn off and the steel cable is carving a groove in the aluminum piece. May have to replace both

I replaced the original with a TH marine product.   I’ll have to check for any wear.

Don't worry about that BS.   You just tend to those wheel bearings and let the rest go.

If you sweated everything that needed constant attention then you'd never get to fish.

I bought a floor jack, a grease gun and 2 pregreased replacement hubs for a little more than having them serviced once.  I’m doing it myself now and carry all that in a tub in my truck bed.

I enjoy mechanical maintenance.  I may not be a mechanic but I’ve fixed all kinds of stuff at my house.  Refrigerators, garage door openers, lawn mowers, plumbing issues and now service my own trailer.   YouTube is a game changer in that regard.  Oil changes are too cheap to do it myself anymore.

I actually predicted that when they started putting those plasti-dipped steel cables on trolling motors.

My actual words were....."Well that's cool, I guess, for as long as the plastic coating on the cable holds up".

The whole deployment cable on Ultrex shows a lack of engineering IMO. The cable pushes against the power cable to the head when you deploy it. I thought  I had the trolling motor on the wrong side of the boat or maybe I'm doing it wrong

Is everyone else's cable push the power cable like this. I most often swing the cable around to the outside to avoid this but it's awkward

I see what you mean.   Yeah that would bug me too.

Will the motor not mount more straight with the hull, so that the TM head isn't hanging so far out over the side?    Because that's just begging to be ripped off while docking someday.

I always try to mount so that the head stays inside the gunnels, if possible.....like so..IMG_20210613_140813235.jpg

If you can get that head inside the boat your angle on the deploy cable would be better.
