The most important message the River Rangers*  try to spread: DON'T MOVE THE ROCKS. Rocks in and around rivers are important habitats for salamanders, macroinvertebrates, fish and more! In addition, when you move these rocks, you can change the flow of a stream an increase sedimentation, which may change what can survive there. This summer, we took apart more than 300 rock structures! Please refrain from moving the rocks and leave the cairns for designated trail markers.

EDIT- These are pictures of us disassembling rock structures, not building them!

MONKEYS? what monkeys?

Way more goes on than people realize in conservation departments….it’s not all about busting poachers, and sitting around in trucks writing on a tablet…lots of good work gets done no one ever sees or will get to see…and it’s not a job people take for the money ether…

MONKEYS? what monkeys?

I never understood the whole rock stacking thing. Anytime I see them on the shoreline I go and kick them over! Although normally most of them get washed away from the floods.

"you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post"

There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!

It drives me nuts, and I always kick them over as well unless it's a place that is already "civilized", like in a campground or access point.  On Facebook people get all indignant when they see complaints about rock stacking..."it doesn't hurt anything".  Well, what part of "leave no trace" do you not understand?  Why do you think other people want to see your lame attempt to shout, "look at me, I was here"?  But I've been called rude and selfish for calling them selfish and self-centered.  As if I shouldn't expect for wild places to be wild.

As you can tell, the whole thing ticks me off.
