Best place to buy Marine battery

Hey folks, my square back canoe is finally coming together after some refinishing and I'm looking to get it on the water soon with my 55lb thrust motor. I haven't bought a marine deep cycle battery in so long that I wanted to ask what the current situation is on those... What's your recommendations?

Bass pro?

Walmart?

Any good warranty considerations to be aware of? And any deals?

It depends on where you are and what you want.  If you are going to use it for the trolling motor only you should look at the reserve capacity.  That is what keeps you on the water.  There are a lot of different sizes with 24 being the smallest and lightest weight but it also will have the least rc.

I think it will be for the trolling motor only 99% of the time. I do have a humminbird depth finder if I wanted to pull that out but I don't really envision that being a common occurrence based on where I want to fish.

I don't know anything about lithiums. Will look into that

In terms of where I am...I live in South County currently

Battery Outfitters. Have them install and setup the batteries for the start and troll motor, then buy a lithium for the hungry graphs.

Sry - "South county" is a term they use around St. Louis....It means you live in St. Louis county (not the city), and in the southern part of it.

Battery outfitters looks nice but I don't know that I'll need much "installation" here. Half the time I'm hoping to just throw this thing in the water with no motor at all and just paddle around. I guess I will need to think about putting the battery up front though for "ballast" and all that...

Aren't interstate batteries pretty high end, or no?

Thanks for the input guys!

There are only a few battery manufacturers that supply each brand. Interstate, Everstart, Pro series and Duralast are all made by Johnson Controls. Super Start is made by Deka.

By that logic I figure you might as well get the one that's cheapest. They all suck and 4-5 years is about all you'll get if you're lucky. With all of the equipment here on the farm, I've never seen one brand hold up better than any other.

I really don't see the appeal of AGMs either, with prices approaching that of lithiums.

Check out used Valence batteries on Ebay. They're pulled from medical equipment and a lot of people use them for solar, RVs, big boats, etc. Pretty reasonable for what they are.
