fishinwrench Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 With the introduction of livescope I think everyone is learning alot about bass movements lately, and quite a bit of it is contrary to what we all have assumed for years. The number and sizes of bass that just sit out in the middle of nowhere, suspended, is astounding. I'm left wondering though, if the majority of THOSE fish are tournament releasee's that are simply lost....or if that is just a natural behavior trait in lakes with an abundance of shad. All of my life I have been fishing for bass that are in or near cover of some sort.....But guys are locating schools of heavy bass nowadays that are 1/4 mile from anything that even resembles cover, and they are catching them consistently. A little 9 boat derby last Tuesday resulted in 5 limits in the 20+lb. range. Using livescope and jerkbaits in open water. If that's not an eye opener I don't know what is. 😳 snagged in outlet 3 1

Is that kind of lake natural anywhere? The lake he's on and the lake you're on are both artificial, so in fact unnatural and all that goes on in them may also be unnatural. snagged in outlet 3 and fishinwrench 2

Maybe they start out more “natural” and as they age they become less so. Interesting for sure.
tjm Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Certain sure that if no one looked for fish in open water, no one would see them there and because no one saw them there no one would look for them there and circle around. We grew up with books and magazines telling us to look under the stump, so we do, and often enough there is a fish there so why look where there ain't no stump?
fishinwrench Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 I've known for years that groups of keeper sized bass suspended out in open water near release areas, but back then we couldn't actually pinpoint them and watch how they reacted to different bait presentations....in real time. Now that we can..... it's No Holds Barred. Suspended bass have been an untouched fishery forever, until now. Master that and you're a threat to win ANY tournament in nothing but a 14' Jon boat with a trolling motor.

The A-rig thing, 12 years ago or so opened my eyes to open water bass. Dang fish were out in the middle of nowhere. FF sonar has made it easier to find them. snagged in outlet 3 1
