Members scooper54 Posted March 18, 2022 Members Posted March 18, 2022 Do you eat the squirrels you shoot? If so, how do you fix them?

Members scooper54 Posted March 30, 2022 Members Posted March 30, 2022 Thanks, Oneshot. I've trapped a bunch of those tree rats, shot a few, but never eaten one. Always wanted to try them, but I'd have to clean them when my wife was gone. Too much of a "city girl," if you know what I mean. 😉
oneshot Posted March 30, 2022 Author Posted March 30, 2022 On cleaning I’ve started a new way. Soak them in water, cut Head, Feet and Tail off. Cut right down center of the Back, pull the hide off. Being as I really only have one Arm this works good. Thinking of using the guts for Catfish. Hey they smell and have blood. oneshot Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Members scooper54 Posted April 10, 2022 Members Posted April 10, 2022 Thanks for the tip! Using the squirrel innards for catfish bait makes sense to me . . .

I will state openly that I am not a die hard catfisherman. I don't put a lot of time in towards catching them. With that said, I have tried squirrel livers for catfish and was not as successful as using chicken livers. Go ahead and try them yourself. Won't hurt to not just throw them out.
fishinwrench Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 In my experience using any kind of guts, or even cutbait, for cats (unless you are drifting them) just results in more turtle bites than fish bites. But then again..... Oneshot would just as soon eat a turtle, so....... 😉
