BilletHead Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 What a muddy mess. Irrigation lake pumped down to about nothing. Blue wing teal like mud we do not. This morning was our first teal hunt of the season. Nothing around yesterday or so we thought so we shot doves instead. About daylight Pat points out a mega wad of teal in the distance. After killing ten dove between us we checked a pond. Four there. Checked again last evening and 130 on it. So it was teal this morning. VID_20220911_062920301.mp4 Before LST a few in and out. Then all broke loose with little flocks of teal. I once got stuck in the mud and went to my knees. I was totally stuck. Would still be there if it wasn't for my wing woman. Usually Blue wings and thin skinned and not much fat. Not these. All pretty fat. Good eats and yes teal was consumed this afternoon. Ryan Miloshewski Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 All the ones we shot were fat as can be too. Kind of shocking but also awesome! I pan seared a few today just like a fat mallard and they were exceptional. netboy Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 I saw quite a few groups of blue wings buzzing the river at Bull Shoals C&R area this morning. Also, hundreds of lesser Canadian geese landing all around me. Brought back some good memories of duck hunting in South Texas. Terrierman 1
Terrierman Posted September 12, 2022 Posted September 12, 2022 Once long ago in the wayback machine there was this place they stripped soil for whatever. The teal just loved the 3" to 6" water and mud banks. That was when I was in college and a few ducks were a welcome addition to the food budget. We took a lot of birds there that year. I have no doubt at all Rick! One of the craziest places I have seen teal was right across from the truck stop behind the BBQ joint in Nevada. A puddle with grass where Freddies is right now. All the hustle and bustle going on right there had no effect on that hen and drake. It was Spring when the birds were heading back north.
