FYI - Lane Springs Rec Area will be closing for the season on September  26 (normally end of October).  The reason is to begin construction work that converts 4 of the "Basic" camping sites into "Electrical" sites.

While I'm glad to see more access for the folks that require electricity for medical equipment to enjoy this wonderful park, it has been my experience that electrical hookups bring more of the issues I camp to avoid (lights, noise, folks that are trying to avoid what the outdoors has to offer).  Just my 2 cents on this part.m, but wish they had added some new sites with electricity and built the in a separate area (maybe downstream of the parking lots).

Lane Springs has been going down the tubes for a while.  We stopped in last winter and found the closed gate.  It was an old winter stomping ground from the 90's for me and a summer stop over from time to time.  But the Non Binaries got to hanging out there trolling for others, probably a little meth production going on, and NPS changed the hours.

I never really could call it a premium fishery, but it was unique.  And I caught fish there as a change of pace from parks and rivers.  Always better than the other Mill and Spring creeks.

The winter gate is curse and a blessing.  It normally means if you walk down the hill, you have the fishing to yourself... the blessing.  Then you have the walk back up the hill... the curse.  I tried it out early on when I was figuring things out.  I want to go back this year and see how I do.

They only had 6-10 electric spots, and the sites are spaced out pretty well. There is more than one way in there.

Where were you when we were there last winter?   The Yancy entrance looked pretty sketchy, I remember it was a pssing match with the locals years ago.  Most were walking in from gate at road into park.  Buddy does not do hills well.

I usually drive right past that ditch 6-10 times a year. I would not make it a destination. The trout fishing is not that good.

It never was a destination, just a change of pace.  Never crowded and held a few trout.  Always a spot to camp overnite.  The stream is easy to wade and was always clear.
