Heading up next weekend and needing some reports.  Fall weather cooling things down around here.

First time on the lake, any info will be helpful.

Looks like Long Shoal is our ramp near by.

Are they working shad balls yet or still too early?  Going for bass.  But have the better half with me so if we can find easy fish for her, its a plus.

We were there last week for 4 days. Fishing is a little tough for keepers. You can catch a lot of shorts though. Most of our fish were in 8 to 12 ft of water. Though we did talk to another guy and his wife and said they were catching shallow. Shad are maybe half way back in the coves, but had nothing chasing them.

We fished the Fairfield area Wednesday afternoon & both morning & evening on Thursday. We fished off bluffs, points & the 83 bridge. We fished deep, we fished shallow, even threaded the timber up to MM P-16 & threw everything in the tackle box at 'em & caught exactly 5 fish. I got a 12" drum Wed evening & a similar sized channel cat Thur morning. Uncle caught a similar sized drum & channel cat & a 10" crappie Thur afternoon/evening.  Stopped by Cody's & his wife said he told her nobody was catching & the crappie were between patterns. We didn't see or hear of anyone doing well & hardly anybody out.

Been on Truman & Pomme several times this summer & have caught exactly 3 fish. Keep hoping to get out & at least catch enough for supper, but that hasn't happened yet. I keep hearing it's the weather & timing, but it's about enough to give a guy a complex.

I know you've heard it all before but a lot of it really is being in the right place at the right time. And the in-between seasons are toughest. These reservoirs are unforgiving and take a lot of time to learn.

I'm hopefully gonna run down to Stockton this afternoon and see if anything is going on there. Haven't been in quite a while.

Absolutely. Still frustrating, though. I don’t care at all about trophies or limits & not much about species. I just wanna have some fun & catch supper every once in a while.

I’d love to try Stockton, but it’s rep for being spooky when it’s windy makes me think a little 15’ mod-v doesn’t belong on the northern end of the lake & Mutton Creek or Aldrich are a lot further away than Truman or Pomme.

I’ve only been going up to Fairfield because my uncle’s got a place up that way & as a complete boat newb, it’s nice to have both an experienced boater along, as well as a dock while I learn how to drive a boat. Same with most of my time on Pomme. Once I figure out/get the nerve to launch with no dock, I’ll likely spend most of my time between Talley Bend and the Sac access on 82.

I’m learning to fish from basically scratch, along with figuring out this boating thing and learning the waters, so I’ve got my hands full. Lol!

My impeccable timing continues unabated. Missus & I rode up to Fairfield today, but no bueno. Had hoped to go up the Little Pommy some & the west side of Indian Island, but it was really windy & water way too rough. Backed the boat in & floated it & it was bouncing around & splashing water over the transom. Yeah, nope.  My little boat rides way too low for that kinda water & my carcass all the way aft would not have helped that situation at all.

6 or 7 rigs in the parking lot when we put in around 1:30, so I'm guessing it was worthwhile to be on the water, but judging by the size of the trailers, they were in much bigger boats than mine. Could've just lit a $20 bill on fire & saved myself an hour & a half's worth of aggravation. Told the wife on the way home that with what we paid for the boat, every fish we've caught in it has cost us about $1000 apiece so far.
