They do work well but as mentioned take a fair amount of time together good edges on our knives. I have looked at these but not pulled the trigger. I may have to put this on the Xmas wish list😉 It should be a requirement for kids to learn to honing stones and diamond hones with leather strop. Then graduate to a work sharp system. You will be very happy John with a gift like that. MOPanfisher Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 I have thought about the work sharp system. However I bought a set of the cardboard wheels way back in the early 90's from what was then called something like Razor Sharp Knige Service at BPS. I have sharped untold numbers of blades since them with them, regritting them several times (need to do again). And I am used to that system and am too lazy and cheap to change. I suspect that the Worksharp system is a bit easier to use as you don't have to free hand it. The Lansky system works well just takes more time. Terrierman and Johnsfolly 2
Terrierman Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 I still have a Lansky but it mostly gathers dust. There's a Ken Onion edition Worksharp out in the shop and a Chef's Choice diamond wheel sharpener in the kitchen. They both work great with the Worksharp being the clear winner if starting with a dull knife. The Chef's Choice gets used a lot on the kitchen knives. Makes them into razors. Cannot abide a dull knife. BilletHead and Johnsfolly 2
Ketchup Posted November 11, 2022 Author Posted November 11, 2022 Well, picked up a few items this week. I got the binos at Bass Pro. While there i glassed thru 4 different pair all within that $300 range. Being a very simple guy that grew up with not a lot, i guess my expectations are very low because i could not tell much difference between them. The guy helping me glassed them all as well and said the same. He said it was more about the internal parts more so than the actual viewing. I did look thru a pair of Vortex Razor HD that were almost $2000 and tho the eye relief was better, I didn’t see much difference in the viewing, but again I’m a simple guy that doesn’t expect much. Now to get to sharpening these knives. Thank BH for the suggestions. Johnsfolly, Terrierman and BilletHead 3 TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
Terrierman Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 ^^ Bet you are happy with both of those purchases. I've got a pair of 10x42 Nikon Prostaff that I have similar feelings as you had towards those Bushnell's that were sadly lost. They don't hit that $300 mark but I am happy with them. Wonder if we'll see anything in the binoculars tomorrow? Ketchup and BilletHead 2
MOPanfisher Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Let us know how you get ong with the worksharp. I am always looking for something else knife related to spend my $ on. Would be embarrassed to admit to how many knives, hatchet, Tomahawk, and axes I have. And still when I go out to field dress a deer I find the same ones on my belt. I took my old pair of Nikon 10x50s down to wife's stand today so she doesn't ha e to pack as much stuff the first trip of the season. Those old 10x50s are dang good in low light, but bug and heavy. my pair of Burris 8x32 aren't bad either. Way way back we used to look through the old Steiner binos and they were dang clear, but that was 30 years ago, "cheap" binos have come a long way since then. I only say cheap because I was comparing them to the Steiners. I am way too tight to ever pony up for steiner or Swarovski etc. Would some day like to get a Leupold Spotting scope but that tight thing I tough to get past. LOL says the guy who ordered 2 more knives in the last week! Ketchup 1

LOL says the guy who ordered 2 more knives in the last week! Well, i just spent 10 minutes getting it set up and going. I took a new, factory edge knife and within minutes had it scalping the hair off my arm “isn’t that how you test the sharpness?” So it took me a minute to figure the end result. I thought i could achieve a sharp edge by continuing with the red “sharpening” belt. After 20 pulls on each side, it was sharp but not huntin’ sharp. Put the purple “honing” belt on, pulled each side 8 times, and here’s the result. No more hair on my arm. I’m going to like this. I have nothing compared to MO as far as knives, but i do have 30 to 40 that will get a new edge put on them. Johnsfolly, MOPanfisher, Terrierman and 1 other 4 TinBoats BassClub. I had to start keeping paper or something where I sharpen knives, I was looking like i had mange on both arms. Sharpening knives to me is like reloading, useful but relaxing also. Warn your wife before you go after the kitchen knives, but she will quickly start to complain if they get dull. Ketchup 1
