Dutch Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 I’m wanting a 12’ rod for crappie fishing. I need one that is light weight but with enough backbone to hook them pull them up from 30’. Anyone got favorites in this category?
Members Beasley Posted December 3, 2022 Members Posted December 3, 2022 Basspro crappie maxx pro series rods are hard to beat for the price. It’s just as good as my acc crappie stix and has better guides. Can boat flip 3 pound plus fish and has plenty of sensitivity.
Dutch Posted December 3, 2022 Author Posted December 3, 2022 How is the weight? I don’t want a heavy rod.
Members Beasley Posted December 3, 2022 Members Posted December 3, 2022 Not bad for the length and the backbone. You can get lighter rods but they are usually too flimsy to set the hook good in deep water. With the reel on it and your hand in front of the reel it balances so you don’t notice the weight as much. I have a 12’ acc crappie stix and I find myself using the bps rod 90 percent of the time
MrGiggles Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 Check out Outlaw Crappie Poles. Local company, the owner is a great guy, met him a few times and see him around Stockton and Truman now and then. I believe I am Outdoors in Buffalo and Everhart's carry them, you can get them directly from him as well. I'm not really a fan of long rods, but I have the 6.8, it's my favorite light action rod. The sensitivity is great. He can also sell you just a tip section if you ever break it. -Austin

Looks like the 12' Outlaw is 8 ounces. Not sure how that stacks up with the competition. https://fishoutlaw.com/products/12-pro-se/ -Austin
Dutch Posted December 5, 2022 Author Posted December 5, 2022 I looked at the rods at Bass Pro. Most seemed to be noodles or long fairy wands. I called Eagle at Cotner’s Corner. They carry Mr. Giggles Outlaw in 12’. They seem to be a bit stiffer. I want a rod that can put a crappie in the live well without a net but not be heavy.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 I got one last year, they are big and awkward to use. Even a 10" crappie feels heavy on the end of a long rod Daryk Campbell Sr 1
