Hey not trying to be that guy here but, have you had the chance to try the very new MB X-80 jr ??

I was down there right after Christmas visiting a friend who is a major tour pro and he took me out and we fished them and absolutely blew them up with them but, we did have to put a suspend dot on the belly and these are sizer subtle and don’t require much movement from the angler.
they were hands down the best little finesse jerk I have ever used and now I am waiting on my shipment of them to arrive so I can get back out with some lol.

Never heard of them.

HAHA!  Have not fished them yet, but I will tie one on for the next trip.  Lately jerk baits in general have not been working for me, darn fish are so deep it is hard to call them up.  I ran into some huge schools of shad and these baits do a good job of matching the hatch on those little shad.

Thanks for the tip on the dots.

Twice I have suffered the "can't stop them" syndrome. Once on Keystone, outside of Tulsa, in the 70's. The second time about 8 years ago on the flat outside of Stubblefield Branch on Table Rock. I attribute both to flatheads. No shakes, no anything, except determination to test your drag and line. Both times, I instinctively tried to apply a little thumb to the spool and paid the price. I will admit, I felt dumb at the idea a little thumb might help. But then, I did not have a lot of practice. I would welcome a third try.

I don't know in those situations if I want to see it and know or just leave it a mystery. I've got 2 of them as well

One on Beaver, fishing the big hump in the dam area down the hill from the dive shop. Threw a flutter spoon and was bouncing it along. It took off and eventually just pulled out.

The other was in the tailwaters between spider creek and 62 bridge on a jig around the big boulders. It never took off but held to the bottom with big head shakes. They had just started to run water and current was picking up and after 3 or 4 minutes I was pressing to get it up and it was getting really close to the boat. Did the same thing holding the spool to put more pressure and pop went the line. Never saw it so have no idea what it was....still haunts me today.

I'm sure that fish I lost was a striper.  I'd be happy if those big stripers would leave me alone when bass fishing especially when I am back in the trees.  But I hear you on that mystery fish Devan, I hate losing those.

As far as flatheads, I know someone that spoons a lot and fishes with his wife quite a bit and they've both caught big flatheads on spoons on Table Rock, they usually get a couple a year.

They are super subtle on the movement so not very much is needed from the angler just very slight touches and the strip will allow the bait to get down to where you need and I had to fish them on 10lb test probably would have been better on 8lb but that scares me.
