Quillback Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 When you don't get a lot of bites, it makes for a short report. I caught a smallmouth right off the bat on a jerk bait on a gravel point, and another one off a laydown about 15 minutes later, and then went through a dry spell for a few hours. Finally found some on one bank that had some docks and brush piles, just going down the bank throwing a 2.8 Keitech and the ned. Caught 5 on that stretch, and by then it was noon and time to go. Fish were in the 10-20 FOW zone, WT 51. Water is still clear in some areas down by the dam, 20 feet of visibility, in the coves and up Indian, you've got maybe 5 feet of viz. There's a few stripers in the area, I had something really whack the Keitech that was a hit and run, could've been a striper. Saw a few stripers on top early, worked a top water for a bit, but no bites. Some debris floating around some of it is big stuff you don't want to hit. FishnDave, BilletHead, MarkG52 and 5 others 8
Dutch Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 I would take those numbers today. I threw the Keitech some today with no bites.
Members breeves2245 Posted March 26, 2023 Members Posted March 26, 2023 What pound test you throw in that clear water? My bass fishing background is from the Houston area. So one foot of clear water is pretty clear. I'll never forget the first time I launched at Indian Creek. I could see the boat ramp down to 15' or more. Almost wanted to hook back up and go home.
Quillback Posted March 27, 2023 Author Posted March 27, 2023 Today I was using braid with 10 lb. fluro leader. About 6 feet of leader.

When I moved from Oklahoma to Tablerock lake, I had the same experience. Even the clearer lakes in Oklahoma, Tenkiller, Grand, and Broken Bow, do not compare. The hard way, I learned to downsize to 10#, max, and learn to fish 6# and 8# as well. Ham and Johnsfolly 2
Dutch Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 If clear water intimidates you then don’t go to Bull Shoals. Terrierman and Ham 2
Johnsfolly Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Congrats on a couple of nice ones @Quillback. Would have loved to seen what hit your bait so hard. I'm sure that you wanted to see it as well😉.

Sadly, I'll never know. @Johnsfolly Johnsfolly 1
