Cold start to the day, Old Man Winter is hanging in there.

Caught fish in the back of a couple of coves that had shad.  Caught them on the 2.8 Keitech.  Didn't catch a bunch, but had 5 solid keepers and 4 of them were largemouth.  I typically don't catch many largemouth on this end of the lake, but today I found a few.

They were chasing shad and some would come up on top, couldn't get bit with a top water, but they'd hit a Keitech if you go it on them quickly.

Caught a couple of big white bass too.

Did have some periods of no catching going down the bank, caught a few smallies doing that that were few and far between.

Congrats on a few toads Jeff! That is a fat white for sure.

Good going Jeff. Nice looking fish.  I figured the whites would have been spawned by now.
Yesterday was a beautiful day here.  I would have loved to have been able to get out but had previous commitments.

It was indeed a nice day.  Eagles were flying, turkeys were gobbling, trees are starting to bloom.  Looks like the weather is going to go bad for several days once again, grrrr....

I got camping reservations at Prairie Creek for next Sun-Tue. Going to fish that area. But you got me thinking about Indian Creek too. Think I'll make reservations at the campgrounds there very soon. I take the small travel trailer and then come back to the house to get my boat.

Gotta ask. Since it's not much difference drive time wise to Indian Creek vs Prairie Creek, why do you prefer Indian Creek mostly? I am just assuming you do based on posts. Appreciate the fishing updates. It keeps me motivated!

Indian Creek tends to get less pressure than the mid lake area.  More smallmouth on average.  Not quite as much recreational traffic.  Don't have to deal with the metro area traffic on the way to the lake either.

If I was a die-hard tourney bass fisherman, or spent a lot of time crappie fishing, I'd spend more time mid-lake.  It is a bit tougher to fish the lower end of the lake and getting a limit of 5 big bass is a challenge, but if that is not your objective, and you like to fish just for the fishing, Indian Creek and that whole end of the lake has lots of opportunity.

Yesterday I saw only 2 other fishing boats.  No one was ever even close to me fishing, felt like I had the whole area to myself.  Solitude is tough to find these days.

Once the camp grounds open it gets a lot busier.  A lot of striper fishermen start showing up too.  Which is another thing about that area, it can have some great top water fishing for stripers once May rolls around.

I get overwhelmed with big lakes. Coming from a topwater bass fishing background on small reservoirs, I feel a bit defeated when I show up at Beaver.

Maybe just focusing on one smaller area of the lake is a good way for me to attack Beaver.

Yes, the drive is much less hectic and I'm all about lowering human contact when possible. Although it may not have as much "entertaining" boat launch techniques to see as Prairie Creek.

Thanks for the feedback.

I bank fished last evening looking for some of those whites. Nada. Although I did catch a half dozen smallies and 2 nice eyes. Also seen a sailboat sink in the dam basin and subsequent rescue right at dark.

I'd take a 1/2 dozen smallies and a couple of nice Walters from the bank.  Hopefully they got everybody safely out of the sailboat.

About the time I started to call 911 another boat ran over there and plucked him out I guess. I couldn't believe the number of boats that I saw out....big waves in that area.
