I'm thinking that her and her friends are leaving out the part of the story explaining how they were either playing, feeding, or trying to cuddle with the otter.

Either that or they don't know the difference between a Honey badger and an Otter. 🤔

I am sure glad they brought them back from almost extinction.  Such a valuable species.

I read about that Mitch but had not seen any photos. They are not very nice for sure. When I am asked to get rid of them by a neighbor I do it with killer conibear traps. here is a 56 inch one. No messing with one in a foot hold unless it is in drowning set.

Isn't it unusual for there to have been a single otter? all that I have ever seen here or in the east were in groups.

Not when you trap out all of the stupid ones.  I am down to a loner on the farm.

Males of breeding age are pretty solitary. Article said one or two. In all that excitement I'm not so sure I could tell if surprised.  I can only imagine. I have seen them fishing on clear creek. Two mothers showing the young how to fish. I sat against a tree and watched them catch carp. It was a ravenous fight amongst them to who go the carp.  I would not want one after me. They are fast and I am slow. I was turkey hunting in the fall and was armed.

I guess I'm lucky that I never got attacked when sharing a mill pond with a group of otters and two pairs of swans, my rowed jon boat couldn't have raced either of them, and at the time I didn't have any idea how dangerous they were.
