I've been saying it for years...... It was way better way back when a couple of drunks with Pall Mall's hanging out of their mouths hauled feed across the road in a wheel barrow and slung it out of a coffee can. 

They got all that fancy expensive gear, hired highly educated fisheries biologist's, and the place went to hell.  🙄

I don't know why but they quit producing fish.

No I don't fish the Park but the river use to be much better for Trout. 

I was thinking they was more worried about stocking City Lakes in the Winter. Then Otters was killing several. 

I have found better fishing for native fish than Trout but you can do this anywhere.

It reminds me a lot of fishing in a mall parking lot. Wouldn't make any difference if every other cast hooked an eight pound trout, it wouldn't be highly desirable as a destination.  But then all destinations become overcrowded and worn out simply because they are destinations.

Here's the thing....... There are all types of water at Bennett.  Fast shallow water, Slow deep water, Weedbeds, Rootwads, Riffles, Boulders, Tailouts, Shoots, Slower flats, ect.  

It's a great place to practice, or learn, FLYFISHING.  Nymphing, Dryfly fishing, Swinging wets, Streamers, Sight fishing, Pocket water fishing, ect. 

Stocker trout bite the exact same way as wild trout, so you can hone your strike detection and hook setting skills to a fine art. 

So if you learn to fish all those different types of holding areas, and practice until you can do it WELL throughout the entire stream...... you'll be a good trout fisherman anywhere in the world you choose to go.  

 

 

However, if you're one of those guys that just stands knee deep in the hatchery outlet, or on the bridge, dam, or handicap jetty, with a mop fly under a bobber ALL DAY......You ain't learning or practicing Jack $#!t.

I agree. It’s a shame how bad it has become.

I doubt that I saw all it the handful of times that I was there, but, I recall a lot of parking lot and not many shaded stretches. 

I don't recall any riffles or pockets, but if you say they are there, I'll take your word for it.

But, the first time I fished it was ~40 years ago and the last time was the past  spring; and in my mind it's just chitty now as it was then, and just as good. No doubt a good class room and anyone at all should be able to find a fish, but it has zero aesthetic attraction.  It puts to lie the old saw about trout living in beautiful places.

If it was less than an hour away I'm sure I'd fish it often, just because the parking lots make for easy access, but ~200 miles make a "destination", and there are probably fifty or more places between here and there that I'd rather fly fish.  Nearly all of them with less macadam and more trees.  I'm really more of a small stream type.

If you've never busted your @$$ tripping over a greased cannon ball boulder in the High Bank hole.......then you've never actually fished Bennett Spring.  😊

They WOULD HAVE.   Luckily their plan went south.    Any KNOWLEDGEABLE biologist, that had any fishing experience, would have realized that putting an exhaust water pipe in that spot was detrimental.     

Hopefully the NEW PLAN will abandon that for good.
