Quillback Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Went out for a few hours early. Weather was a little different, east wind and it felt cold out there early. Fishing was slow, some bites here and there, I'm getting bit in the backs of coves in water that is 20-30 feet deep, most of the fish are near the bottom, but sometimes they'll be up shallow over deep water chasing shad. Had one of those mornings where I had as many missed bites as fish caught. They'd whack the swimbait, but drop it, nothing to set the hook on. Hooked something that felt submarine sized, had it on for 30 seconds or so, it was slowly swimming away pulling drag, acting like it wasn't hooked or didn't care that it was hooked. It came off when it decided to do some head shaking and rolling around, I'm guessing by a little bit of slime left on the line it was probably a big cat or possibly a big drum, but I'll never know for sure. Caught 5 smallmouth, 5 white bass, and one yellow bass. Kept some whites to clean and kept the little yellow dude just to see how it tastes, probably like white bass I would think. 3.3 Keitechs on a 1/4 oz head. Dutch Posted August 7 Posted August 7 That sure beats what I was doing this morning. Glad you got to go.
AR Huzgr Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Not a bad way to spend the morning. I went golfing and it was quite nice out. Back in town so I think I'll try walleye mid lake tomorrow. Will make a report if I get out. Quillback 1

I haven't caught one in a while, the places I've been fishing in Beaver have shad, white bass, black bass, yellow bass, and a few small stripers. You'd think there'd be an eye or two in the mix, but I can't get one, not even a dink. AR Huzgr 1
Blll Posted August 8 Posted August 8 I've been catching a few yellow bass too. Not really a good thing. They are very prolific and max out at about 10". No reason to release any IMO. Dan the fisherman 1

Not happy to see them, but we're now stuck with them. Dan the fisherman 1
jeb Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Quillback and I hit Indian Creek yesterday morning. Took my boat so we could see what was going on down there with my Garmin FFS. I've had the FFS for a 2-3 months, and it has been helpful at times. But yesterday it was one of "playing video games" days. There were lots of active fish throughout the water column, and especially around the submerged trees. Could see them come running towards the lure, multiple fish at a time. Sometimes they'd bite, sometimes the wouldn't. Groups of them would follow the lure from 10' to 40' and back w/o biting. Proving again that finding fish is not the same as catching fish. We found a submerged cedar tree that was loaded with fish, but they would not come away from the tree very far. Caught some nice LM's off it, at least for this time of year. 2+ lbers. Spoons and swimbaits did the best for us. FFS really proved it's worth to me yesterday. nomolites, snagged in outlet 3 and Quillback 3 John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Quillback Posted August 16 Author Posted August 16 It was some fun fishing for sure. Very interesting seeing the fish and how the react. Jeb has set up his FFS so that he has a screen up front and one at the console that we back seaters can see. snagged in outlet 3 and nomolites 2
