fishinwrench Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Was laying over the side of a boat and swung a battery out of the bilge area.....like I've done thousands of times..... And "POP", fractured a rib 😒  Didn't really hurt that bad, and no excruciating pain to speak of, but I have been dealing with a constant dull ache for several days😕 I'm taking a few days off to hopefully let this thing heal a bit.  But I'm wondering HOW LONG it's gonna take ?  Anybody ever busted a rib before? Â
Quillback Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Never have busted one. Probably depends on the severity of the break. And do you know that it is a bone fracture? Based on how you injured it, it sounds more like some kind of rib cartilage damage.  Â

Dutch Posted May 16 Posted May 16 I don’t want to sound like the merchant of doom but I broke three ribs in a fall on ice it was several weeks before I got relief.

I YouTubed it and according to "experts" there I'll be lucky if I get relief within 6 weeks. I can still do things, within reason, without too much pain.....and experience with similar things has convinced me that it's best to keep moving and doing some stuff if possible.   It's worse today than it was yesterday though.....so I either over-did it, or slept on the wrong side last night.   I've put off a few tedious jobs and am only doing the easy stuff for awhile. Â
Hawg Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Bruised ribs can be worse.  I had a sudden burst of intense pain 3 days after an incident that caused bruising and slow swelling.  Thought I was having a heart attack. I had to sleep in a bathtub for days just to get some slight relief😂. The Docs said it would of been better if they had cracked and relieved some pressure... fishinwrench 1

Gavin Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Last time I broke was at 45i and it lasted about 3 weeks. Â Sounds like you might have just popped one out of alignment. My chiro fixes that in 1 visit mostly, sometimes a follow up 2-3 days later. Good luck with it.. Quillback and fishinwrench 1 1
