Members huskerangler Posted Saturday at 07:43 PM Members Posted Saturday at 07:43 PM Hello, I've posted a few times and lurk often. This isn't necessarily a fishing topic but the fishing is slow down there this time of year and I figured you guys are the real experts to ask! Have an opportunity at a pontoon down there with a boat slip included. It has a yamaha 250 and a boat lift. Wondering about what all needs to be done to winterize it every year, and what costs would be if we weren't able to make it down to do it ourselves. I read on a different ozarkangler forum that a 250 outboard doesn't need "winterized", but I don't know if I should trust that. Obviously oil change each year and replace water pump each year. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

fishinwrench Posted Saturday at 09:53 PM Posted Saturday at 09:53 PM The lower unit gear lube needs to be changed.....or at least inspected..... before winter every year. Typical water pump service should be done every 3rd year.... unless you are having overheat issues. Service centers will tell you "every year", but honestly that's excessive.....they just want your money. Do not buy a boat (especially a toon) on a hoist that doesn't have a TRAILER. That boat needs to be pulled out at least once/twice per year for maintenance/service. And locating someone with a trailer that fits that specific toon can be a pain, and costly. snagged in outlet 3, skeeter, grizwilson and 3 others 6
