Doing the basketball thing again

Ironic thing.... I played my first "old man tournament" in 2021, just after covid.  It was in Indianapolis, and  we played this same time - alot of the same players.  And they beat our pickup team real bad.  Ran us to death.  We'll see tomorrow.

Confession - I played in the first 2 games.  The last 2 games, not so much.  These guys are really way out of my league,  and since I haven't played organized ball, I'm all thumbs on the court.  It's fun.... but I'm not going to take credit for the job these guys are doing.  I'm just bless to be able to play and be here.

Let me guess, Phil, you're the 3 pointer guy?  I'm calling 21 points for you tomorrow.  Good luck!  My money is on your team.

Yeah, you and your brothers were about 50 times the athletes I ever was, not to mention I was height challenged.  I got better as I got older...up to a point.  Not playing organized ball, it took 20 years before I actually knew how to play, rather than dribbling and shooting and waving my hand in front of somebody on defense.  I didn't learn to block out on rebounds until I was teaching and played the basketball coach one on one a few times.  When he pushed me into the seats a few times blocking out my missed shots, I learned!

I would have traded you some of that athletic ability for 1/10 of your artistic ability. Getting out of college, my first and only teaching job was at Hayti , Missouri. The basketball coach there was a guy named Don Tomlinson. He was a star at Mizzou in the late '60's. He was about 6'6" and as rough as they come. Norm Stewart said of him after he passed "there were a lot of broken noses when Don played here" or something to that affect.

Sorry I didn't post yesterday.

We won our championship game against Indy Allstars 62-44.  Our defense kept them from getting any traction.

George put together an awesome team from the DC area, plus picking up 2 players from other teams - they're from the Chicago and Boston area.  One of our guards pulled a ham string 2 minutes into the game but I guess we didn't need him.

Congrats. Good that you can keep playing. I miss playing b-ball. Just curious....does one guy act as coach or is it kind of a team effort?

George is our coach. He’s the one with the beard. He put the team together. He’s already recruiting for the next tournament.
