Vacation Trip Report

Got to Cooper at 6 am.  Heavy fog and then thunder and quick light rain.  Slowly made my way upstream in the fog.  Boats scattered around fishing.  35 megawatts till  9 or so and then they ramped it up to 150 when I left

Threw the jerk till noon.  No fish caught after 10:30.  Had around 10 to the boat, rolled another 15 or so and had at least that many followers. Never caught a rainbow although at times groups would follow it all the way to boat.

A couple of the browns that I rolled or had on for a while were real nice.  One XL brown followed the jerk to the boat and he was a tank.

Back at it tomorrow.  @Travis Swift I swear I had all my bass gear but I just couldn’t leave my regular milk run.

Dozens of sparrows nest in the trees near the deck down there.  At times I would have 3-4 sparrows on the table eating bread crumbs from the hill.  The closest one would get to eating out of my hand was about 4"s.  A small male and female.  I'm sure if i had a few more days I would have gotten one to take it.  If I didn't put any out they would sit on the chair backs and rails and squawk like crazy like they were yelling at me.  Pretty cool actually.

Put in at the landing and ran my way milk run for bass.  To say Taney bass fishing is a secret on Taney is a joke.  Boats in every Creek all the way down to Rockaway.  Didn’t want to horn in as the low water didn’t leave much room.  Never wet a line.  Fun though to see it with empire jacked up.  Couldn’t even get in behind the fishing pier at Rockaway.

I’m at the pool with a beer

I always wondered about how many people bass fished there.  Sorry to hear you couldn't get a place to fish, I was curious how the bass fishing was there.

I used to fish it a lot more 10 years ago.  It was always hit or miss.  Never really did pattern anything solid.  Had several trips when fish were on beds and in the clear water it was game on.  With the dam broken at powersite it really jacked the lower lake up.

Some good looking chunks there!  Glad you were able to find them.  I lol'd once you explained spaghetti and meatballs.  That's hilarious and I've never heard it called that before.

Drove home yesterday and no problems so that was great.  Since it's still the weekend!  Went out this morning and was catching small smallies and spots when I set the hook on this spot and my airstream snapped in two.  Must've dinged it on the drive back.  Nothing over 12 inches but there were a lot of them so it was fun.  Tube did all the damage.  It wouldn't even get to the bottom most times.

@Phil Lilley or @duckydoty what rods are you using to throw jigs these days?

Don’t know how old the rod was - inside of 12 months BPS will replace the Airstream no questions asked; I had mine break in Canada setting the hook on a walleye and traded for one of the new red ones( they have retaken the label from Browning and changed the color).

It's 2-3 years old at least.  Are the red BPS one's the same as the browning?  Only bummer is the red one is now 59 bones.  I think I paid $39 for the Browning.

Same rod, I have field tested to confirm - just different color and no longer Browning marketed.  I don’t know if they would prorate an older one.  I had never had a rod break like that(snapped below ferrule) but I really love the UL action for working small stickbaits and jigs.
