I thought I read somewhere that the guy trying to grow the bass in TX is the owner of Tecomate Seed. In a sense he has spent his life "growing deer" so just moved onto bass.

those guys crack me up....last September I ran into one of those guys right after that big brown that was caught on fly rod and posted and ultimately died. whomever he was informed me that we shouldn't be targeting big fish "that time of year" and ultimately playing them out and killing them. We had spinning rods with 6lb test and jerkbaits and here he is flippin a fly rod......morons.

Except it wasn't.....they did it again this year.....and my assumption is they will do it into perpetuity. 9,000+ this year so they made $90k instead of $190k.

I don't know about the bear deal....didn't put in for it but I did the elk. Thought it would be cool to be the first group to kill elk. That being said the fee is what rubbed me the wrong way. Its only open to in-state hunters and has no bearings on later "Draws" other than if you're picked you can't win again right away. I pay my fair share of taxes along the way and still buy deer tags even though I qualify for landowner and often don't kill a deer. I believe in funding the department even if I don't agree with every expenditure they make. That being said.....19,000+ signed up for the first elk hunt @ $10 that is $190K for nothing. I hope it pays 2 or 3 MDC wages but I bet it ultimately doesn't. Personally I think the fee for the tag after the fact is a joke for 5 total elk killed. It wasn't/isn't about the $10 most of us easily blow that in day on stuff we want; its the premise for me. Honestly if I got a preference point(even though it wouldn't really increase my statistical odds) or a hat or a pin or something tangible I'd be more forgiving. It doesn't at all change how I feel about daily fees, tag costs, ect about the normal options residents get. I am thankful that MDC is funded top 5 in the country in funding and the state takes reasonable care of its residents. I would personally like to see lifetime tags come down in price and the out of state tags go up but everyone can find something to complain about.

And how is that any different than cancer, heart attacks, strokes, car accidents, boating accidents, bee stings, snake bites, or anything else that might kill you.
-
Yep unless you get a preference point or something similar.

Their paying on COVID? So if I catch it I get another stimi check? How does this payment system work?

My wifes office is paying out insurance policies on COVID deaths.

I don't think this is a chicken swap issue.....sounds more fitting to a horse auction.

I checked another box that I've always wanted to but never had a good shot. Even though the opportunity was in front of me almost daily. Catfish on the fly rod. A bit of backstory.....at the farm I have a pond that "use" to be stocked by my dad. Dad kept gills and channel cat but we fished them out about as fast as they would get eating size growing up and he would restock. Since his passing, it has not been stocked except for some random catfish, bass, and carp(stupid teenage years/bucket biology). Its fairly small .3 acres and needs to be intensively managed to prevent overpopulation of anything. Shortly after his death my grandma allowed some neighbor kids and co-workers access which was immediately abused(fishing 7 days a week and keeping everything they caught). I finally had enough and 10 years ago put a stop to it for no other reason than an insurance liability at the farm. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago....we took our daughter to Centerton fish hatchery for their kids fishing day. She was overwhelmed by the number of people to the point of not being able to focus on fishing. On the way back, I mentioned growing up having the catfish pond and my wife says go for it. So I called MFA and lucked into fish day being that week. I ordered 200 channel cat and a grass carp and bought 50 lbs of feed. I've been feeding everyday since. I have a handful of 4-6" channel cat coming up and billions of 2"-3" bluegills. Friday I had 3 channel cat show up that were much larger. 2 probably in the 2-4lb range and 1 in the 5-8lb range. I can only assume they are hold overs since they came to pellets so fast but who knows. They are wise....they hide in the moss or under the dock and just slurp their chow but they come every feeding. Yesterday I had my fly rod in the car so I pulled it out.....strung it up and put on a pellet fly. I really did not expect to catch catfish but was expecting to catch some of the larger bluegills. After about 10 minutes I hooked a catfish and landed it. It is one of the 2 smaller fish. I released it because until I can make a reasonable effort to clean them they will be my pets. Good news it was back slurping pellets this morning. I did not cheat and throw pellets and then fish but still feel cheated but fun and a check mark none the less.

Sure if your into that kind of thing.....lots of wars been waged over religion across the globe. My point was we can find universities all across the country that cater to "niche" ideals all of which have at least some level of bias built into the curriculum. Again not many witches and satanist going to Evangel because they don't agree with the curriculum. The Alabama thing was a joke......at least in part.....sure Alabama was a space race hub at one point. Doesn't mean they all went to the University of Alabama. Just like SpaceX isn't full of rocket engineers from UCLA necessarily. Yes a certain amount of engineering is offshored......generally speaking its been my experience those jobs are the specialty jobs(electronic layout, software design, electronic design, mechanical design/modeling) Most of the customer facing/management positions are left stateside.

EMan is good. Been there done that.

You're right..... they don't have a lot of forethought but lack of forethought doesn't get you out of criminal trouble either. College isn't 100% the way. I darn sure knew I couldn't afford to go to Arkansas or Mizzou and earn my degree in afterschool activities and day drinking which is a lot of what the "going to school to be doing something or figuring out who I want to be" entails. People in that boat just need to get 4-5 roomies, part time jobs and do it....no need to spend $300+ a credit hour to "C's get degrees your way to a Bachelor's in Astrology"

So we picked a public university in a liberal state and complained about their liberal bias? We picked a degree with almost non-existent ROI and complained about what they teach? I didn't even take English in College at Rolla.....I did have to take a speech class but my teacher was high as a kite most of the time and always talked about the illuminati and tupac. I also took a women in engineering class that was full of guys. Nerdy logic. My calc 1 teacher was a dude....my calc 3 teacher was a female. They just so happened to be the same person....guess what he/she was the best math teacher there and stuck strictly to teaching math. Made zero difference to me I was there to learn the material and maybe the only reason I learned it vs. trying to take it watered down at CC. CofO basically locks freshman on campus. I hear you can learn to take care of farm animals there too. Evangel shoves religion down your throat. University of Alabama only cares about football and siblings dating. The best thing about college is that nobody is forced to attend(at 18 years old your an adult). There is literally thousands of options to cover anything and everything(Trump University anyone). The go from nearly free to as expensive as you want. Almost nearly all of the costs are known upfront. You should have a good idea of your earning potential after graduation and live with your decisions. You can drop out anytime. You guys should quit complaining about colleges and start complaining about the employers that put out the silly requirements of a degree for non-degree'd jobs. Supply and demand.....without demand there will be no supply.

Caitlin Jenner used to live stream side.........problem solved. -
Degree only gets you the first or second job. After that its usually communication and/or networking.

Problem with putting fish guts back in the river is that its the number 1 complaint by people that don't understand fishing and ecology. The ten fold of people walking their dogs you speak of, they have kids/grandkids and they don't want their kids swimming/playing in nasty fish gut water, don't like the buzzards, don't like seeing fish guts, ect. But they will gladly go to any local lake and play in human sewage. -

No clue. I know trout can be found from the dam down to beaver town but the upper most 7 miles is the better water. Certainly shad is in place and I would think other bait fish. Gates are open at Beaver enough since 2006 that there is certainly bait coming through the top too. I've been there and seen it. Water may be pulled from too deep and be devoid but shouldn't that effect all the WRL tailwaters to some degree? There's a few browns every year caught or shocked up that are big but nothing compared to the white or Taney for a heck of a lot less pressure. -

Don't quote me exact...but I think since 2006. -

You guys want to see what a slot limit does at a trout park go on down to Beaver Tailwaters. Protected 13-16" slot 5 fish limit 1 fish over 16" 100K fish stocked yearly Maybe half(or less) of the pressure per mile of any of the trout parks. Lots of baby fish, lots of 13-16" fish. Very little rainbows over 16" and nearly zero chance at a trophy sized rainbow. -

Bummer......based on my knowledge of the trout parks.....the only thing anyone cares about is the fish cleaning station. Its complained about non-stop on the facebook pages once they were closed and still complained about on the roaring river page cause people think its too far out of the way. -

Think she would complain on facebook non-stop about not having a cleaning station?
