I tell people that see my 1979 Chrysler Fin & Fun that if you gave me a brand new Ranger I would turn it down.
But if I did buy that boat with an ink pen and still did not catch fish.........
Candy and I and the teardrop went to Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons and the Black Hills last month. This is our first meal camped in Yellowstone. I bought the steak from Paul's Meat Market in Ferguson -- they call it the Cowboy Cut.
This has been four years ago. I am pretty sure I kept the temperature between 425 and 450 because that is what is written on all frozen pizza's. But I only vaguely recall pre-heating the lid.
RPS, We don't have a pizza stone but the top of our largest Dutch Oven is designed to be used as a grill. Candy made a pizza and I put in on the lid and cooked it in the egg. It turned out well. I was concerned that most of the heat was coming from underneath but that was not an issue. But one thing, the crust was great that night but as leftovers it was difficult to chew.
There are several good CORPS campgrounds, there. One at Ray Behrens and another at Indian Creek. Indian Creek is less crowded and is worth the drive. Before we all have GPS I would get a campsite. Unpack the truck. Walk down to the water and tie orange tape to a tree. Then launch the boat and look for the orange tape and keep the boat there, overnight.
Candy has made stuffed grape leaves. She makes it the way her Armenian grandmother did. I remember, once, she found grape leaves in the yard, I picked a bunch of them and they were just fine. But I don't recall any cinnamon.
I hunt over a hen decoy. It is my strategy to call in the hens and the gobbler will follow. I place it a good 20 feet from me. But I will only do this on private ground. I never use the decoy on public ground.
These guys were using turkey tail fans as cover AND did not inform each other of their whereabouts. I have never heard of 'dressing up like a turkey during turkey season' and doesn't everyone have cell phones, now.
It appears I enjoy fishing more than catching. I enjoy the process but the next day I can get my dauber down thinking about getting skunked or out-fished by a companion. It certainly does not bother me at the time because I am just glad to be fishing.
But to answer the topic, directly, I don't think success is the result of a body of knowledge but something intangible. Perhaps it is pheromones. I fished Wappapello last month with my buddy Rick. We were doing the same thing but he caught more fish that I did.
Now that brings up another topic -- I always thought fish are pointing at the bank unless they are entrenched in cover. And it is assumed bass will not strike at something coming from behind them. If that is true this is excellent work Quill.
My buddy Rick called me and said the crappie are biting at Wappappello. I hitched up the Chrysler and got on the water Friday and Saturday. We did well with the keepers but as time went on we started catching more 8-1//2 inch fish. Jigs were doing as well as minnows.
That is why I own Chryslers. We all get our parts from Franz Marine in KC and he is excellent at technical support. When he retires all Chrysler owners are going to be in bad shape.
A few years back I had no time to buy a card. I was on the road and working long hours doing a bank conversion. I happened to stop at a truck stop and noticed they had Valentine cards. There was one with otters -- she loves otters. It is one of her favorite cards and did not know it was bought at a truck stop.
I work in Fairview Heights, IL which is the retail capital of the universe. But for some reason the only outdoor store is Fairview Bait, Tackle and Hardware (which is a pretty good store). Then they built a Gander Mountain and I was happy.
There is an Academy but I thought they were just soccer balls and bicycles.
What I am taking away from this post is that all of these lures are crank-baits with two treble hooks and I should throw something else to avoid losing my bait.
