  1. better yet maybe you should carry a gun with you because you seem to be the type of person that other people would enjoy shooting. Not me, but maybe some other gun waving jackass.
  2. Smalliebigs, most the crap you write on this forum has been some of the "stupidest dung" Ive ever read. I don't carry a gun in the wilderness unless I'm hunting and I only do that once or twice a year. Don't need one when Im fishing or hiking, what am I gonna shoot the fish and trees? I used to carry a bb gun when camping to keep the raccoons at bay, but don't anymore, havent had a coon attack in some time. Havent had a people attack in...ever. So to you pistol toters, to me you guys are the biggest threats on the river. I imagine it really strokes a man's ego to know that he has the ability to kill whatever whenever. If you want to carry a gun in the wilderness, become a game warden or some kind of law enforcement. At least they "wear their guns outside their belts for all the honest world to see"-TVZ But whatever its your choice, my perspective is if its too dangerous without carrying a deadly weapon, then you should spend more time on the golf course, and less time in these dark, scary woods...
  3. otters are really cool animals, I love seeing them when Im on the river. They deserve to be there as much if not more than humans.
  4. Ive cleaned and cooked 2 gar before. They were both very tasty. Last time I did like wayne and used metal shears to cut thru the tough skin. Gar have a good chunk of meat on both sides of the back bone above the rib cage that extends the length of the fish. Similar to cutting the back strap out of a deer, I just cut those 2 strip filets out and its a good amount of boneless meat. Just fry em up like you would any fish and enjoy.
  5. I tried to step out of my canoe onto a sandbar the other day to fish a spot real quick, my foot instantly sunk into the sand up to my knee. I about flipped my canoe trying to pull my leg out of there. lesson learned.
  6. I'm not sure what the best resource would be for all agfc stream accesses. Its probably a matter of compiling a master list from multiple sources as well. This may be a newer up to date version of the book you already have. http://www.agfc.com/store/Pages/default.aspx?action=ShowDetails&itemId=10 A friend has told me that this book is a good source as well but may be outdated at this point. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0897325214/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d2_g14_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0721J1DKGGRBBZR7KN5E&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846 If anyone on here knows of any good sources for agfc stream access points, please post. thanks
  7. Dan, youre doing some noble work protecting our wild fishies that float thru the streams and I thank you for it. I hope AR can catch up with MO in the realm of resource conservation. A simple informational sign posted at accesses would make a world of difference down here. I think there are few folks that will read it and wont care. Most folks that just don't have the information, reading a sign like that as they are putting in their boat, thinking about those facts while they are fishing. I just know they're gonna do the right thing, which in many cases I think could also spawn a curiosity to learn more.
  8. I'd like to see a catch and release only policy for smallies established for at least 10 or 20 miles of at least one of our streams in AR. That would surely grow some big ones. If you're not into releasing, then you can fish somewheres else. Arkansas also sure could use some of your "Help Create World Class Smallmouth Fishing" informational signs to be posted at accesses. Lack of information (ignorance) in my opinion is the biggest problem concerning stream conservation around here.
  9. The Gander Mountain fishing department isn't too bad (it's slightly better than Academy, and miles ahead of Dicks), but like most box stores in the Arkansas river valley, there isn't much of a selection for stream fishing, fly included. I was most impressed with the wall of fishing line. You can actually get quality line in smaller gauges, which is not the case from what Ive seen at Academy. As for BPS coming to town, I really don't care. Its a tourist trap and real fisherman usually know where to find the right tackle much cheaper online.
  10. I can't remember too well, but didn't finesse presentations outfish all them A-rigs being flung around to win that tournament?
  11. Come on, seriously?? Tim is the only one here who has apparently done research on the topic. He's definitely the only one that has presented facts and provided data to support his view. You guys should sit back and try to learn something rather than ganging up on the one dude who knows what he's talkin about. I havent said much on this issue though I have been following it. I would rather try and learn something than get on here and try and poison the flow of information. Everyone has an opinion, but few here have any idea what they are talking about. Anyway I said it once and I'll say it again. Tim, thank you for standing up for the science and what is right. Its a tough battle when the brick wall you're arguing with denies any scientific logic you present.
  12. I always hear about The Gourds' version of Gin and juice, but what about their original stuff??? Now that's some great music. check out their album Stadium Blitzer, its freakin awesome.
  13. I hear ya on the left over fire rings on gravel bars, so very pointless. For me it actually makes it tougher to get a sustainable fire going using long logs, which are mostly what is found out there. Usually start seeing them more and more as the tourist season fires up, no pun.
  14. I've been seeing more snakes on the rivers this year then I can ever remember. Do you think there are more this year because we had such a mild winter?
  15. I caught this golden bone last weekend, my first ever. Measured 32", best fight of my life, so far. Cannot imagine hookin one on a fly rod.
  16. Thanks for the tips Nighthawk! I really appreciate it. Definitely need to improve my line mending.
  17. That's a beautiful fish! I'm heading up to Sylamore access this weekend to drift fish in a boat, can you tell me how deep you had to drift the midge to get bit? Did you need a bunch of weight on your leader to get it down? I don't have a lot of fly fishing experience, but would like to give it a go this weekend. Any tips you can give to increase my chances of hooking up, I would greatly appreciate. thanks a bunch.
  18. A couple weeks ago, I was crappie fishing muddy water, mainly using live minnows under a cork with moderate success. While the wind was blowing I caught a few on a pink n chart bobby garland jig. The wind died down and the jig bite kind of dropped off and started getting more hits on the live minnows, but those bites were too far between. I increased my catch dramatically when I started hooking a live minnow on a 1/32oz pink jighead and tipping the hook with a chartruese crappie nibble. Having a live minnow in the calm water gave me the live movement needed that the jig couldnt, while the pink jig head and chart nibble allowed the fish to see my bait easier. As the water clears, I think jighead color becomes less important. Thats what I think anyway.
  19. Maybe I should be a guide, I know how to catch smallmouth in a river, I can also read water so I could operate the boat. All I need now are a bunch of rich folks that don't know a deep hole when they see one.
  20. not in that area but not too far away I saw some huge carp jumping out of the water this weekend.
  21. Yep def chunky fish, what kind of jig is that in her mouth? thanks
  22. also if you dip your spoon in the hot oil before you scoop one out of the mix, it will slide off your spoon into the oil perfectly and you wont have to force it off the spoon and screw up the cohesion. Enjoy!
