  1. It would be nice if a fast reproducing, very nutritious crawfish were to populate areas. Sadly it almost never quite works that way. Interesting article for sure.
  2. You are correct, I have hit the river a couple times when it was on, nice warm rain to make it flow and color up the water without a flood is perfect. Whites and or wallys good way to spend an afternoon or evening.
  3. Always amazes me though to see bystanders and watchers get right up in amongst it all. Even once an OLD wrecker that was started with a screwdriver, and had sketchy brakes, used rocks from the shoreline to chock the wheels on the wrecker, and finally hooked the tow guys helpers pick up to the front of the wrecker, after I laughed when they asked me to use my truck for the brake. Also the one occasion when the wrecker pulled out a car and the guy said "that's not mine".
  4. Starting mid March through mid April seems to be the best. By then I have abandoned them to crappie fish or throw crankbaits from the boat at wallys. Water temp around 50 degrees is supposed to be the trigger bUT I have a tendency to just go when I can during that time. Seems like early on its just walleye and the occasional bass, toward the end of it white bass seem to be more prevalent which is still a heck of a lot of fun, and makes a tasty supper too.

    What's Cooking?

I may have thrown up just a little bit reading that. My kids were straight velvet mac and cheese, I like to add a little extra sharp cheddar or something. Oh and pickle wraps are delicious.

    What's Cooking?

My cats seem to like them tare-tare light seasoned with lead shot.
  8. For me personally I don't like jerk baits, I will most certainly do it if necesaary, and try it every spring, but I have low confidence in using them, at least from the bank. I will however be throwing jigs and or plastic swimbaits. I like goofy bright colors, or a fairly natural color on occasion. Fishing from the bank is a little different, you sort of hang your hat on that spot and work it and work it and work it. If everything is right it can all happen in a 10 to 15 minute window. Or not at all. The nice warm south wind days are not my friend, too many other people out there. Give me a cold, cloudy, rainy, raw evening with a north wind. JACK WEATHER, and sometimes I still don't catch squat, but sometimes I do, that's why it fun.
  9. I heard of some jerkbait fish not too long back, but I suspect it takes a few warm days to get it going. But every day that goes by is one day closer to the magic time, and I hope to spend some time with the rest on the bank slinging my offering to them.
  10. Interesting view from the underwater camera. Thanks.

    What's Cooking?

Pulled out a couple packages labeled skirt steak, a box of spring mix salad, some yelled squash and a loaf of store bought sourdough bread. Fast sear on the skirt steaks left them rare to medium rare, sliced across the grain and into a bowl with salad and squash and a slice of bread. Grandson and son in law are slurping it up like good oLe country boys would. Dang good if I say so myself.

    What's Cooking?

I am planning a single batch of jambalaya for tomorrow, to go with at least 3 batches of wings that I know of.
  13. Hogwally, are largemouth as much of a problem on the Meremec as the spots. I always hear about the spots but almost nothing about LM.
  14. Chief, I doubt anybody has ever noted that you have purty hands.
  15. I personally have perfected the art of letting them get loose before I even have them out of the water. Actually I have become so good at it sometimes I only have to fight them for a second or two before I lose er I mean release them.
  16. I have always wondered why the smaller tilt trim motors don't have the breakaway type thing so it will pop up if you hit something. It's always a shock when you have unlocked your tiller motor and shift to reverse, first thought is usually WTF, then it oh yeah I remember.
  17. It has been documented in captive deer herds for something like 30 years or more. Nobody who raises deer would want to have their herd become infected with anything, especially CWD. Their herd would not only be destroyed the would never be able to raise deer there again.
  18. I used to help with a pay catfish lake, but it was not a pareticular money maker. I hope that folks can make a geat living with pay lakes and breeding up their carp for folks to catch. It's a huge investment, the land, lake and the proper breeding and management, I like when folks are successful.
  19. So why are carp folks not stepping up to build and stock these money making lakes.

    What's Cooking?

Sorry no pics, smelled too good and I was hungry. A couple rib steaks, tenderize with the jacard tenderizer, hit them with a dose of house seasoning (salt, pepper, garlic powder) and dropped them on a smoking hot grill. Marked it up nicely on both sides, then put a pat of butter on top. Pulled them off and rested a couple minutes and sliced thwm up. Nicely medium rare with slightly more done around edges. Added some cheesy broccoli rice made in the microwave and romaine salad in a bag. No leftovers either. Then broke off part of a tooth eating a piece of red licorice. Luckily already have a dentist appointment scheduled for Thursday. Dental work has some different concerns with my particular treatment regimen, will see how it goes.
  22. Naw, I tell folks there are no crappie in Pomme! The high water year of 2015 made for a fantastic spawn, and they are reaching keeper size. Plus last year's high water (2017) should be a repeat, so again in 2020. Should be a good time to be around for sure.
