    What's Cooking?

NO, that is unsportsmanlike. You must immediately surrender them to me. I might even put a couple halves into the smoker while some kind of meat is smoking. Sounds delicious.

    What's Cooking?

Butternut are one of my favorite vegetables, I can eat a half a one every meal. Pea tendrils are fabulous in any sort of stir fry and pretty good in a salad.
  3. After doing a bit of research I might be willing to attend a weigh in or two!
  4. LOL, I have spent more than a few hours of my younger life carp fishing with rod and reel and trotlining for them as well. Don't think I ever caught a carp that I mistook for a walleye or other game fish, completely different fight, and a darn good one too. I learned a lot about fighting big fish on light tackle from them and enjoyed every minute of it. However as long as I am able and have places where I can go catch crappie, walleye, white bass and bluegill I am not too worried about selling my tackle and buying carp gear. Trophy carp fishing is not that different philosophically from any other trophy sport, people spend large amounts of money to pursue huge muskie, bass, walleye, white-tails, turkeys etc.
  5. Maybe we could hybridize some carp that would survive is those cold water trout streams. I wish they would stock wipers in Pomme instead of muskie, at least I wouldn't lose as many crankbaits. The whitest are trying to make a comeback on Pomme, small ones were thick last fall and this spring. I havent had a chance to even think about trying for any this fall, but if that many had died off this year there would have been a pile of them blown to the bank somewhere.
  6. I have named a few of the carp I have caught while fishing for other species, I cannot print those names or Phil will ban me for bad language.
  7. I have used cajun red, golden stren, clean, fluorescent, bright green P line, and now use bright greenish yellow or bright white braid. Never had an issue with any of it, in fact the ones I hated the most were super clear mono and a black braid. That stuff was impossible to see about dark during that magic time, after dark it simply didn't exist. Color on lures and jigs most definitely do matter some days it matters a lot other days not as much.
  8. Nice buck, and kudos for the tenacity to stick with the trailing and search. Sucks that most of the meat was unfit to keep but sadly sometimes that is how it goes.
  9. Do the fancy chairs come with a built in beer holder or ice chest? I can see me sitring.there in an anti gravity lpunger, with a drinking tube connected to some ice cold beer in a cooler. Might need a really loud alarm to wake me. Could I possible get one with wi-fi and a small tv screen too.
  10. Well any agency whose funding is based upon approval by voters every 10 years or so had better be aware of them and play to them to some extent. There are many people in urban areas who greatly benefit from MDC funding, even if it is only through educational efforts and keeping urban kids aware of of the benefits of having places where folks can go and enjoy nature. As for nature in the cities, fishing, bird watching, and other non consumptive activities are quite popular. Besides if none of those folks came out to the lakes and such the economic effect would be bad.
  11. There are a lot of thing I would like to see them spend more $ on such as accesses to rivers and enforcement. One thing to remember is that those population centers such as Stl, KC etc. Have a lot of leople, hence a lot of votes and yes MDC does a lot in those areas. Elk yeah if everything else was great I wouldn't complain but there a lot of places that could benefit from the $ spent on elk.
  12. Nice dark antlers, big grin whats not to like.
  13. LOL, I can only imagine the mess with the chop saw. However that is a new one I haven't heard before. Hatchet and it snips do decently well though.
  14. Certainly not all but many of the "spills" do result in fines from the DNR, many of them total in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Nobody is advocating a life sentence for taking a deer from the road or out of season, however maybe a fine of more than $150 or so might be a good start.
  15. Part way down the article there is a link to a Uniform Fine Schedule for Conservation Violations. According to the article 84 of MO's 114 counties use it. The amounts are low across the board it seems to me. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.news-leader.com/amp/83196230
  16. Sure, happy to help. Might need to zoom in some, and the orange marker is something google maps did not me.
  17. Ding ding ding. My best spot at LOZ is a short expanse of open bank between docks, maybe 100 yards long.
  18. Lol, I tried to my my KU Dr. Interested in fishing and mushroom hunting, nothing doing. (He is Indian or Pakistani) although others are about every ethnicity imaginable but he had no interest in it. However the nurses (local girls mostly) quickly volunteered to accept any fish or morels I wished to dispose of. Primary Dr. In Spfld also not an outdoor guy, but found out he takes his dog to the vet clinic my daughter works at, so she makes sure he gets extra special care and the Dr. actally mentions it occasionally. My wife and my sister (LPN @ RN) are my advocates, I just hang around to get the treatments like the awesome daily chemo pill.
  19. OK that one a bit of a stretch, lakes in mo generally didn't come into being by a natural accident, aren't literally going dry with no inflow to sustain them. The Salton Sea is a unique critter that was doomed from the beginning.
  20. On Pomme the wind thing does hold true, with whites it didn't matter.the direction just a couple day is the same direction. North wind always seemed to turn off crappie, but I think Walleys liked it better. On LOZ my best white bass bank faces north, and doesn't get a lot of wind either wrench.
  21. Well to be fair if nobody kept their motors running them glitter sleds would be in yards growing flowers by now. Competition doesn't bother me, that's the way of life, put two kids out in a yard and soon there will be a race, wrestling match something that allows them to compete. Without a winner or loser there is no competition, only a performance. I like many things and one of them I used to compete in, didnt like the idea of making a job out of something I used to enjoy. Now the only competition I take part in is me against the fish, and too often still get beat. If at then end of the day I look back and say yeah I had fun, then I still win. YYMV.

    What's Cooking?

Tonight I took Joe's advice. Since I am in KC for a day to two I had little choice. Ended up at Granite City for a "Big show" burger and a bowl.of french onion soup. Soups was good but a little sweet for my taste, the burger was fabulous, almost more than I could eat. Perfectly cooked to medium rare, with pulled pork and onion straws on top. Now relaxing with a little training homework and a cold Moose Drool beer.
  23. Wind direction and consistency means a lot to white bass. Let the wind blow from the same direction for 2 or 3 days then hit those banks where the wind was blowing into, fish them like you were crappie fishing in the spring with a whit e or silver jig. If you start picking up LM pick another bank and try it, when you find them it can be hot and heavy action. If they are not right in the bank moff off just a little, but often will hit within a couple of the edge.
  24. Sirgregory, I send you a PM, if you didn't get it let me know.
