    What's Cooking?

Corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes are one of my favorite things ever. I didn't even think about making it for my kids today. Was on Grampa duty so had time, I am ashamed for my oversight. I am not sure how much corned beef I can eat at a sitting but it would probably embarrass me.
  2. Someone clean 6 spoons at one of the ramps on Pomme opening day, I am sure someone is now convinced they were caught in Pomme, heck I might even agree with them.
  3. You can't buy grins that big anywhere. Well done.
  4. I like catching many different species of fish, haven't even thought abut trying for the little daters and such, I have a tough enough time catching crappie and walleye. I don't find it annoying in the least to see anyone posting pics of big smallies caught on an HD craw, jitterbug or whatever, I still like seeing them. And the occasional pic of SmallieBiggs busted up nose.. I love smallies and almost never have my phone available to take a freshly caught pic. When I shore fish I leave it in the truck, when I float it gets turned off and put in a sealed bag, inside a dry box. I don't like to be called while fishing, it interrupts my good time, thus seldom any photos. I also seldom actually mea sure a smallmouth as I don't keep them, i unhook it, admire it a little, maybe than him for letting me borrow a few moments of his time and release him. I say keep posting pics of them, big or little, costs me money because even when I can't go fishing I can buy tackle.
  5. Needing rain here bad as well, everything is dry as a popcorn fart. Spent a good part of the evening yesterday containing a fire that the neighbor had escape from a brush pile and crossed onto my place. Logs, grass hollow trees everything was burning fiercly. But sure is gonna make some places where I will be looking for shoots if it ever does rain.
  6. I usually end up using a razor knife too, but always thought a pair of these would be slick for that.
  7. Yep, and swords were.weighted differently depending on intended use. Heavy bladed weight forward designs were intended to provide momentum to cut through armor and bone. Many folks bought yiu had to have a heavy blade until better balanced blades became popular and we're very successful due to the speed they could be deployed and a second strike delivered. Near perfect examples are the superb katanas. Is there any topic we can't change direction on?
  8. I will look for them. Would love them to have a home in someone's collection.
  9. It is amazing how it changes a rod. I have some I didn't really like and got to messing with weighting the butt and now use them quite a bit. Eevn an 8 footer, ,took a fair amount of weight but the balance more than offsets the extra weight.
  10. I will say that I am a bit anal about the balance of a rod. I make lead weights and attach them so that it balances right in front of the reel seat. Amazing how changing the balance changes the entire feel of the rod.
  11. Seems crazy to me that this started by Hog Wally showing off a few pics of nice smallmouth he caught, something he has done how many times in the past. Kind of like throwing a rock at a stray cat every other day, then one day the rock hits the dam cat in the head and everyone loses their minds. Keep showing he pics sir, I enjoy them.
  12. Heck I think I still have a couple of the red/whites ones around.
  13. I also based mine on Daves reccomendations and had fully intended to buy a St. CRoix Eyecon, But BPS didn't have one in stock to handle and feel and I don't buy a new/different rod I can't handle before hand. So I ended up with a St Croix 6'6" medium light fast action rod they did have, paired it with the Pfleuger reel, 30 size but memory is hazy on that. Haven't done squat with it as far as Ned fishing, but it has turned into a fabulous walleye jig rod and back up crappie rod. Currently spooled with 8 lb. Powe Pro and a 6# P Line leader. Of course I also bought Whopper Plopper and have never even take it out of he box, think it might be in the creek box.

    What's Cooking?

Pot of sausage, bacon, garlic and onions. On its way to becoming a big pot of Zuppa Toscana. Wish I could attach the smell right now. added the chicken stock, tayers and plenty of heavy whipping cream. Proceed to eat ourselves into a food coma. Lots left over for supper. One of my coworkers had made a couple loaves of beer bread also, I ate way too much of the crusty, chewey buttery flavored edges. Stick a fork in me I am DONE.
  15. Wow, I have never seen a COE area actually "Closed" where camping is prohibited during the off season. Usually its camp with no utilities for free, unless there is a shoulder season like, Stockton, Truman and Pomme.
  16. The Ned is so good it was working before it was even the Ned rig.
  17. While I don't mind trolling in a lake I just can't condone it in the river.
  18. I have the map from MDC and one of my co-workers hunts the farm and knows the 2 individuals who checked in the CWD Bucks.
  19. Not sure on how easy the cocking would be but there are lots of cross bows available for less than $400. Mostly from small dealers who sell out of their homes etc. probably. I have never been opposed to crossbows or special regs for those with medical reasons, honestly not really opposed to crossbows at all, don't think there will be any appreciable difference in harvest. I am more concerned about the latest round of CWD testing, 2 positive cases in St. Clair County, 5.1 miles by google earth from my house. Not sure the MDC's normal plan of kill every deer in the area will fly there, they will never get enough landowners permission to do it I don't think.
  20. I have been afraid to uncover my cold frame to see what it looks like. I can see green through the plastic though, if it warms up I will give it a drink. My regular gardens are so dry and hard I would need an excavator to break it up and turn under the turnips and wheat. Eventually it will rain here, maybe 10 inches but it will rain.

    What's Cooking?

It certainly has potential, you would have to work at it to screw up those ingredients.
  22. I happen to have an amazing ability to take a very specific location, time of day, bait and other particulars where someone else is tearing them up and turn that into a wonderful day of sightseeing and no fish. It's a natural skill, but also one that can be learned if you work at it.

    What's Cooking?

I gave some away working at the concession stand for my kids games. Funny to find a kid who likes pickle juice and give them a cup of juice from the hamburger dill slices jar. They have made their brag and have to try to get it down. But then I have a little mean streak toward teenage boys (at least when my daughter was a teenager).
  24. Dan a slide show would be awesome. I love it when walleye get shallow and aggressive after dark. They hit like they are out to kill it. Only got them to come in close like that once so far this year. Even I can catch them when they do that. AND I wimped out again tonight, got off work and it was misting, cold and I just wasn't feeling it, although I have done better in sucky weather. Guess I can't catch em unless I get some steel in the water.
