Hey, don't be slamming Dinty Moore, there have been a few times that is what was available and it wasn't bad at all. Of course it might have been related to just how hungry I was at the time. At least once hungry enough to eat it cold out of the can. As for foil and crockpots, heck I will happily use both on occasion, if it makes it easier and still keeps the smoky bbq flavor I would use pantyhose or sweat socks. Foil, crock pot, non standard sauces, smoking during the dark of the moon it's all good. I can't think of anything in life that I consider myself a purist on, maybe a snob on some things but that's different. With one possible exception, in no universe does pineapple belong on a pizza, that is just wrong.

Shooting jumping carp from the boat sounds like a blast, and possibly a great way to get shot or shoot someone else but who am I kidding I would try it.

As I have said before I LOVE that nanofil, lots of distance, smooth, just didn't have any more at the house the day I decided to "fix" it.
-
I ended up removing the offending Nanofil line I couldn't get to tie knots. I had my rods mixed up, it was the 6# which I have had on that reel for over 5 years, and simply wouldn't hold. that's the only braid line I have ever had go bad, but that one was my main crappie rod and spend an inordinate amount of time in the boat, in the truck etc, soaking up the sunlight. I replaced the line with what I had on had, which was some Power Pro 8# in high vis yellow, tied the Albright on a leader and it has been working beautifully.

I have never lived in Texas in my life, but I will almost always use foil for a very simply reason, it works. I

Well I blanked tonight. Saw two caught and had somehing hit my rogue but no joy. Wind coming water was cold, but not as cold as the lake water when the wave splashed over the top of my hip boots. Now I can rest for a few days without being worried I was gonna miss out.

Quick fix to get off the river, Gorilla tape or similar. I like the idea of the peel and stick Flex seal type take too. For real fixes to gashes, a good welding shop would be done with it in short order. most boats I know that have run many rivers get a weld or two eventually.

Please do and sore mouth as many as you can before I start walleye fishing and crappie fishing in earnest.
-
Not for me that's for sure, but then I am not very competitive in anything and have no money on the line.

Deleted because I made a bad joke. Sorry Snagged. any cut of meat is best how you like it, I like ribs that are fall off the bone tender, they would never will a real BBQ contest, but that is how I like them.

Usually that isn't an issue for me with fish or wild game, as more often than not its after supper before I am back and done anyway. Fish I can fillet them and throw them directly into the skillet with no problems, venison not a problem either as long as I have time to wash the deer smell off of my hands before eating. Honestly brisket is isn't my favorite, I certainly don't dislike it but there are a lot of things I would rather eat. BTW the Boston Butt and wings were beyond fabulous. The wings just had a slight smoky background flavor and the shoulder, well I am not sure what manna tastes like but it couldn't be much different.

I am hoping to try for a February Wally from the bank this evening. will depend on the timing of the weather, if cloudy and a good south breeze without thunder/lightning I am gonna try. Lightning and I am out. Will report if I go.

QB's are kind of like presidents, they will often get credit or riidicule for the results, whether deserved or not. If his offensive line could have kept them off of him earlier, or his receivers could have caught the ball, or he made better throws or or or, end result, they came together in the absolute best comeback in superbowl history.
-
I am gonna get grilled myself for this but, I have never really been that big a fan of brisket, I have smoked a ton of it over the years for myself and for others but maybe it was just because I was messing with it all day and just didn't want to eat it after that. I almost never order it at a BBQ place, I prefer other things. Others love it when I make it, just not my thing I guess. Much rather have a big ole hunk of Pig, or turkey.

My boat is an Alumacraft 175 with 90 Yamaha. Nice boat. Couple buddies have 18 ft. Crestline and they are great as well.

Looking for good new fishing holes

I don't mind giving specifics some times, although it might be a little late or I might leave out a few things sometimes, old, bad memory ya know. You just have to go give it a try, I have caught fish in places people told me were worthless and struck out in some darn good places. Half the fun is exploring and finding, if it's a bad spot well mark it off the map, if it looks good and yiu didn't catch any hinges give it another shot later. Its still better than staying home and watching tv. -
Was listening to the radio this morning and in between political rants I heard that on today, one of our National Days of Eating, there is some major sporting event today as well, don't know if they planned it that way or not. Put a Boston but into he electric smoker about midnight last night and set it on low. Went back shortly after da light and wrapped it up in foil and stuck the meat probe in it. Turned the temp up and went off to church. When I came back the temp inside was up over 200 and ready to come out. This is what it looked like. The bone pulled right out and this is what it looked like a few minutes work later. Made my own Carolina style sauce by mixing a couple different bbq sauces in a bowl and adding vinegar, squirter it all over it and wrapped back up for later. Well there was some bites taken. At wifes request ileft the smoker going, and spread 6 pounds of chicken wings out on the racks, shool a little seasoning on them. Smoking them for a couple hours before she turns them into terryaki wings in the crockpot. Not going to be a diet tyoe meal tonight. Not sure if I hope lots of folks show up to help eat or very few do so I can keep the leftovers. Although I am sure my son can help with them.

Not grossed out at all by the duck, just didn't excite me either.

Lol, I couldn't catch a cold with a spoon. Not sure I even own one.

Sad but true all the bass, walleye and decent crappie have been eaten, nothing but musky and short crappie left. The first week of April could be anything from sunny and 80 degrees to snow and a north wind. Jerks can be good along windy banks and yep if the sun is warming the water nicely they can be back is some fairly shallow water and hungry. Just play it by ear, you may not catch any lunkers but should be able to catch fish.

Ketchup it will definitely work, that is one method I have taught, it may not be pretty to dump yourself over the transom but you are in the boat. Also can be useful when trying to help someone else back into the boat. Climbing up out of the water with a lot of clothes on can be difficult, those clothes that can help you stay afloat become really heavy when you get above the waterline. Idletime I like that ladder, it extends down a good way into the water when deployed.

You guys forced me to go "normal" for supper. I thought it was a perfect meal but my memories kicked in and I realized I was missing a few things. Woodsmoke, gravel, scalding hot coffee, the sound of a creek/river and a couple buddies. Never the less it was still good. Bacon, eggs and hash brown back there in the shadows.

If you are fishing up a river or feeder creek during the spawn and see a log in the water that looks like a place you would catch a bass later, do not pass it by. Wallys love to hide behind a log in a river with a little current, and ambush prey. They do in a way seem like bass they hang around in loose groups and come spawn they seem to want a little more space. But they all like the same sort of things, and when the feed bag is on it can happen fast. You may be fishing your secret spot for 2 hours and catch nothing, then they turn on or move through and limit in 20 minutes. Of course you may also fish another 2 hours and finally go home, cold, wet and depressed, wondering when you can go again. Or you may be standing right next to someone who arrives after you do and promptly catches a couple, while you chew on your beef jerky supper and try to get a look at his lure, only to discover it looks exactly like yours. I have bennon both sides of all those scenarios. Seems there are two basic ways most people catch them, either cover a lot of water by trolling or working crankbaits et. Or they pick a good spot and wear it out, both can be productive. Man o man I am getting jack fever BAD right now.

Pick a lake you like and about mid April, walk the shoreline and cast an1/16 Oz jig with a chart reuse body and you will catch something. If nothing else throw a Ned also, something will eat it. As for secret spots seems like I am always seeing folks in my secret sots but, if you go down a ways, to that one cove about a third of the way back you will find a small notch fish the heck out it. -
Otters will certainly do major damage in ponds or smaller restricted waters. They love docks with brush around them and especially fish boxes i.e. buffets. Can't blame the fish for not wanting to be around a dock where everything that swims gets eaten. And yeah the do love crawdads. Around the lakes you about need a neighbor who is ready willing and able to trap otters.
