    What's Cooking?

Well if we smoked him a little, surely he could flavor a pot of beans. Good grief, somebody rescue us before it truly goes off the rails.
  2. If the darters were big enough to fillet I might have remembered them!

    What's Cooking?

Whew, glad I all healed up well. RPS, as long as nobody posts a recipe for Hams leg along with a wine or whiskey reccomendations to go along with a "Ham Roast" we will return to normal, whatever that might be.

    What's Cooking?

Dang, a friend if mine just had surgery to reassemble his tib/fib after a woodcutting incident, dragged a tree out to work on it, cut a limb and he said next thing I knew I was lying on the ground. Somehow he got one of the limbs "loaded" and it sprung back breaking his leg right below the knee. He was alone and had to use his saw to cut the tree limb loose, crawl 100 yards to his truck and drive home, (took over an hour) so his wife could haul him to the ER. He certainly wasn't a novice, but crap happens. As of this moment I have had close calls, a few cuts in chaps and coveralls, and a couple scrapes but haven't suffered any serious injury from a chainsaw. Hopefully you heal quickly and without complications, and are back fishing soon.

Ham, that sounds like a terrible idea!
  6. It's a conspiracy to keep anglers confused and buying more tackle. I grew up with "black perch, punkin seeds, jack salmon, white cat, etc." Black bass ( largemouth, smallmouth and sprotted) the various generic "perch" and crappie are all members of the sunfish family. White and striped bass are true bass, and yellow perch, walleye and saugers are all members of the perch family. Assuming that my holy memory is correct. Fortunately they are all still fun to catch and in some cases eat.

I happen to like a good persimmon, however not that interested in using them in anything. I have eaten persimmon cookies and they were good just not my thing I guess. I will happily eat them when woods wandering, used to know where the big ones were located. Any more I am content to work at leaving some persimmon sprouts when brush hogging to try to establish a few persimmon groves, oddly those spots are within an easy rifle shot from my wife's deer stand. Hopefully they will mature and produce fruit before I am too old to enjoy it. Pawpaw are not bad, but again not something I would go out and collect. A buddy picked a bunch one year, and his wife used them to make pawpaw bread, just like banana bread, enough other dices and flavors to cover any off taste of the pawpaws.
  8. I will admit I wish there were more urban fishing opportunities for youth. Whether they were city, county, or CU.

  10. They certainly are not the brightest animals in the wild. I have walked up to them and grabbed them when they are digging for grubs, (deceptively heavy rascals), bashed them with clubs, shot them with arrows, etc. A 48" 3/4 steel pipe with a street L on the end will work wonderfully for "dillo-wacking".
  11. It has nothing to do with being a redneck or not, being dumb or being a jerk transcends all stereotypes. The biggest jerks I have met were those with money AND the attitude to want to shove it in your face as to how important they were. It is always amusing when I see someone like that showing his backside to someone I know who wears bibs, and could buy and sell the jerk without noticing. Jerks are jerks regardless of where they are from or where they are at.
  12. Them redhorse are bether eating than any trout or bass ever thught about being. Now if you had a few gogglers too that would be like dessert.
  13. I need to be working up a patch to plan turnips and fall greens, but my son went off to college, and suddenly I am sup posed to keep up with brush hogging, yard mowing, weed eating (at my house and at church). Apples are too numerous to think about, if I weren't so lazy I would dig out a rusty cider press and try to make cider. How do people live without sons around to be slave labor.
  14. Rusty, hang tough and beat this crap. Lots of folks praying on your behalf.

John that sounds, looks great, and I swear I can smell it.
  16. Helps when you have actual soil. Mine would look they hit a brick wall.
  17. Nice fat hybrid and good healthy looking cotton mouth too.

    What's Cooking?

Since I don't particularly like ginger, adding a ginger flavored drink to perfectly good vodka seems a waste. I thought abut making some sort of sardine paste to use as a topping even as strange as a dash of malted vinegar mixed with the paste, but suspect I will just eat them.
  19. bs1827, I know you were asking Dan, but I make fish tacos out of white bass and hybrids, my favorite sauce is Tzatziki sauce, its a cucumber/greek yogurt, dill and some other stuff that I think really adds a nice "gyro" flavor to the tacos, toss on some fresh spinach and pico and its ON.

    What's Cooking?

My wife discovered the Moscow Mule, and has been drinking them occasionally, however we had to be authentic and she ordered a copper plated stainless steel mug. I can't say I like them that much, right now the Lime-a-ritas have my name on them. Chief, the Bar Harbor Sardines came to lunch with me at work, they were pretty good, nice big meaty fillets. Oddly they were not salty, I even added a little of the house mix seasoning (salt, pepper, and garlic powder to them). They are definitely better than the 75 cent a can variety and enough to make you full for lunch.

    What's Cooking?

I am juvenile minded enough that every time I see that phrase "I spatchcoked a chicken" I simply can't help but giggle. Might be the lime a ritas making it seem funnier. Chief, since I sent tonights leftover steaks back to Spfld with my son I may get to try them tomorrow.
  22. It also may depend upon whether you are talking ding/fender bender or major collision. Some jurisdictions also treat them differently, depending upon injuries etc.
  23. Them greys don't like to hang around, but fox squirrels will just hide and usually catch a bullet.
  24. What is this concept of too many!

    What's Cooking?

Ok Chief I have found them, they will be in my lunch rotation. Haven't eaten any yet. Price wasn't bad considering its a bigger can and hopefully tasty.
