  1. Hopefully everyone has shut off power to their docks. Don't want to read about someone braving the cold water and wading out to their to try and stabilize it and pay with their life.

    What's Cooking?

Please tell me you made some cornbread and set either some honey or homemade strawberry jam next to the cornbread!
  3. Record high was 864.58 in Sept of 1993. If the rivers don't start dropping faster or we don't get to open up soon we have a fair shot at a new record level.
  4. Well its not yet 7 am and we have cruised past 859 and still climbing. Inflows are dropping but not very quick, still over 25K CFS coming down just between Lindley and Pomme. No new forecast out yet from water control.

    What's Cooking?

I had a hankering fir something better tonight after a day of being out in 5he wet and cold. Decided in steaks and sprouts. Brussel sprouts cut in half and sautéed in butter and bacon drippings, with a little garlic and a few capers. Will hit it with a little balsamic at the very end. T bones on the grill are proving to be the biggest issue, grill is on the porch and the wind is blowing hard enough o can't get it hot like it should be. But bet I eat them just the same.
  8. For those that like to know. Current elevation as of about 4 p.m.was 852 plus and rising. Forecast from this morning showed 847 for today and 860 by wednesday. Haven't seen any more updated forecasts, the continued Rais will probably change it. Inflows dropping but still very high, Pomme topped out at 38,000 CFS which I believe is a record, Lindley peaked at 20K, looks like down to 40K or less between them and still dropping. Outflow was shut off last evening around 8 p.m. down to 50 CFS. Forecast shows no increase in releases until Wednesday and 3500 CFS then. A lot will depend on lake level, and downstream conditions on Osage Basin. Bottom line she is big and gonna get bigger. Stay dry.
  9. Nice!

Don't know if I will fall come tell in line with that, but that website has a pic of a couple of the most beautifully marbled steaks I have seen. As long as they aren't over cooked I am in.
  11. Merry Christmas to one and all. Definitely take a moment to remember those who work the holidays whether here in the US or overseas. Also those family and friends who are unable to be with family.
  12. Good size on avegage?

Absolutely agree on most of it Mitch. I dont flip them that often, but if the result is what you want that is all that matters. Often I will put a dab of butter on them also. I like nice grill marks on them so I will often grill them hot to a medium rare. In a completely unrelated note while on Grampa duty with my grandson at a Wal Mart I discovered they were clearancing out hams, down to 97 cents a pound, bone in, hide and fat on them can't wait to get to eat some and make a pot of beans afterward. I may be a hillbilly but I am a well fed one.
  14. Norm there is a very simple solution. Give me a call I will go fishing with you and happily take pics for you. Can have you in or out of the pic whatever you prefer. Did I mention I would be fishing too?
  15. Wharfrat, put a piece of existing glass in as a divider and build a door that opens down instead of up. Mr otter can swim in but not out and they drown.

Wow I have out of it for a while. Gained 2 pounds just reading recipes. Chief makes me want to fire up the smoker right now. And fruit cake, well I love them, just got one in the mail from my uncle that is always awesome. Hot chocolate, a little Kalua in in and a slice of fruit cake has been a favorite late dessert for me.
  17. I would like to say that charging the officer makes a small start in redeeming the MSHP in my eyes, as by and large I will support LE every time, however I have some serious doubts about this particular charge of manslaughter. I am not a lawyer and didn't stay at any Holiday Inns recently so I don't know all the legal technicalities, but I fear that the charge of manslaughter instead of negligent homicide is an attempt to ensure that a conviction won't happen, that the evidence won't rise to that level. I do not know if a jury can say no to the manslaughter charge and reduce it to a lesser one or not. This case is like a road killed skunk to the MSHP, every about it leaves behind a stench on them.
  18. Outstanding sir.
  19. Seems like in the fall while we are crappie fishing if you hit a stretch of bank with no docks and wind hitting well they will be there often mixed in with some nice whites. Lots of fun on a crappie rod.

  21. You mentioned sattelittes I am just making a little sport of the deal, drones, listening arrays have been brought up. All started from a simple gigging bust in Polk County MO, who would have thunk it.
  22. I doubt the Dept. Of Defense is going to task any high end sattelittes to the state of Missouri to check for illegal gigging. The more pedestrian versions, well if they are gonna use them they better buy a lot to replace them as they crash them into trees trying to fly over a river or at least hire a bunch of 14 yr old kids to run them.
  23. Easiest thing in the world to do. Mix up a solution of coca cola, soy sauce, and whatever spices you like and inject the ham full of the solution. Rug some spice mix you like on the outside, smoke heavy for a couple hours, then put it in a large oven/turkey bag. I usually put foil between the bag and the grate. Let it cook in its own juices a couple more houes, the meat will begin to pull away from the bone. Open the bag pour it all out into a big pan, juice and all, pull the bone out, slice or chunk up and keep basting with the juice.
  24. If it is legally earned income and.is more than someone needs/wants (even if not more) it is the business owners to do with as he pleases. Whether that be to re-invest it in the company, build retirement or capital improvements fund, give as bonuses or pay raises to employees, donate it to a church or some philanthropic organization or wander around giving out $100 bills. Definitely NOT socialism, in fact it would seem to me to be the opposite of socialism.
  25. Never fear, just elect the right folks to office and then the Federal Government will decide what you "need" the rest will stay with the government to be used for the good of all.
