  1. Delicious looking. I haven't been bow hunting in a few years now. Been wanting a new bow just to shoot in the yard mostly though.

    What's Cooking?

A little old school for supper. Some fried taters and onions along with slightly more modern grilled fish. With a little cilantro garnish just to make it purty.

Meatloaf is only under appreciated by the frozen in a box crowd. My wife makes way better meatloaf than my mom ever did. But mom made up for with fried chicken, apple pies, cinnamon rolls etc.
  5. Didn't have any young uns the right age so I missed youth season this year. It's awesome to be sitting with a young un when they kill their first deer.
  6. The main store is in Sidney NE. Fist I stopped there on the way to Yellowstone was in 1991 and it was new and nothing around. Last time I was out to visit my friend it looked like the town had up and move out around the store. At first it was pretty cool, then we got to calling it Bass Pro West, probably would have gotten us thrown out. My buddy talked to someone in Sept of 91 when we stopped and in January of 92 was hired on full time. We laughed because I was wearing an El cheapo bass pro ball cap when we entered the store. Manager on duty happened to be standing there and said "if you will put that hat in the trash I will give you a good Cabelas hat. I wanted out wearing a Cabelas hat. At that time few customwrs.in the store at any given time, and customer.service was outstanding much busier place now.
  7. World Class can mean different 5hings to different people. To me it wouldn't have to do with catching lots of 20 inch smallies, I would rather be with my friends camped on a gravel bar, campfire burning down to coals as we finish supper and BS our way into the night. Catching plenty of 12 to 15 inch fish but knowing that there is always the chance for that big un. Who wouldn't enjoy catching big smallies, but that's not the whole story. If the single common denominator among the so called "world class"smallmouth streams is low fishing pressure and no one expects to see low fishing pressure on Ozark streams then it seems less than likely that any management strategy is going to turn the Gasconade into a "world class" fishery.
  8. BPS may not be the best employer around but they sure have employees a lot of college kids, including me for a while. Some things I have no problem buying on line others like rods and reels I aint buying it if I can't hold it in my hand and twitch it. Also more and more I enjoy going into smaller businesses like SFO and just yesterday Fin and Feather in Spfld. I enjoy talking with them about things like floating flat creek or crappie fishing on Pomme. One of my good friends is employed at Cabelas, he is a catalog photo and layout guy. Would hate to see his life disrupted.
  9. I am only 49 and have had two bouts with tennis elbow and some arthritis symptoms from my treatment, still have lots of sciatica in left hip though, never put it together though with hours of standing on left leg while running trolley though. Makes sense. That combined with a youth thought process of it I could get hold of something I could carry it. I see a lot of myself in my son enjoying his youthful strength.
  10. darn JD, I did a little round with the doctors at KU Med this spring, at first their methodology turned me off, but they knew what they were doing. And while I can appreciate Wrench's outlook the doctors there did a fantastic job, words like complete remission were used. So I will most definitely be praying for you and a complete and speedy recovery. BTW I smoked and chewed Redman like a fiend but the Dr. said mine was a type that had nothing to do with it bad habits, just bad luck. Although some days the cure seems worse than the disease, hang in there and beat it's butt.
  11. LOL, I have done that in the past, first couple days are daylight to dark fishing. Then the day start later and end earlier, usually by the end is a "you fellers want to go fishing today or what". Toss in a few cold beers, checkers or pitch games, cigars and just enjoying life, the night can get pretty short.

Communism! , beans need some smoky ham hocks or at least some good ol ham bone for that real flavor. Not that I would pass up a bowl of good bean soup and cornbread, but I would complain in between spoonfulls.
  13. While someone ating legal bass doesn't cost me any lost sleep I hate to see folks rape a resource regardless of what that resource is.
  14. No doubt that if Johnny Morris thought he could profit by purchasing Cabelas AND could pull it off he would do it. Just as.much as the Cabelas brothers hated him I am skeptical. But heck who knows, Abkeenan you are correct about not expecting JM to buy Ranger Boats. This is why I don't speculate on stocks.
  15. I can't think of too many things that are less likely to happen. But stranger things have happened I guess.
  16. If I remember I will try to jump into the chat room. Sadly I will have little to contribute as I don't fish TR, or for bass really, so to be honest it gets kind of boring for somebody like me. So a little lurking to see what is being discussed and back out if nothing intrigues me is the norm.
  17. If trained well enough maybe with the right whistle the tow vehicle could bring itself to the ramp.
  18. After 6 months away from fishing and somewhat restricter in things I was allowed to do, I am finally back in the boat. Spent a full day on LOZ trying to find crappie bigger than 8 inches I was a little sore and stiff. But a quick half day trip the next night has about crippled me. Lowe back, knees, feet, even my rod holding had was hurting. Surely carrying some extra weight found during the down time didnt help. Maybe have to fish more regularly to rebuild those weakened muscles. Warm coca cola and slim Jim diet while fishing?

    What's Cooking?

After an unsuccessful day crappie fishing at LOZ, I did come home with a big hybrid and some smaller ones, so on the menu very soon will be fish tacos. Hybrid fillets trimmed and cleaned coated with a variety of Cajun seasoning and grilled until flakey. Let them cool and flake apart to personal preference. Some small flour torrillias, baby spinach or whatever greens you like. Mix some plain Greek yogurt with lime juice and lime zest, cilantro and whatever else tickles your tastebuds, just use a gentle hand on the seasonings and taste often. Smear some of the yogurt sauce on the tortillia, add some flaked fish, and spinach or greens, green onions, diced mater if you want, etc. I wouldn't hesitate to add a little of that smoky salsa Chief had either. It's different but delicious. I suspect made with tilapia wouldn't be any different. Don't be afraid to expirament on the flavors.
  20. We found some way up the Pomme yesterday afternoon. Wasn't the hottest action but they were nice ones and some little whites and occasional white bass thrown in.
  21. Delicious looking.
  22. Ouch! talk about adding insult to injury. Eating trout when you were primed for crappie fillets.
  23. Mmm? Bet that's gonna smell good.
  24. Streams, WTH, if there is a stream involved it needs to have smallies or at least some green sunfish in it.
  25. I will wait a few days to see if it gets better or i figure it out before I complain too much. BTW where is this edit content located at.
