You can plant greens like spinach, lettuce, mustard etc., also turnips and even squash. However things like hot weather are tough on greens and you may get frosted before squash make, but if you don't plant anything you are guaranteed to harvest nothing.

Mmmm, flathead belly meat. nice ones!

I have known agents who wrote ticket afte ticket, only to get them dismissed by the PA, some agents get discouraged by that and don't write many, others will continue to write them and let the PA have to explain come election time why he dismissed so many. I don't know about TN but in MO you cant use gamefish for bait.

The Master Plan is the "Big Picture" guiding document for a COE water resource project, in this case Bull Shoals Lake. It provides a general direction for the future use and development of Project Lands and Waters.
-
MDC seems to treat enforcement as a necessary evil, which I agree with. In MO the fines go to the county schools in which the ticket was issued, the state doesn't get it.

Don't know of netting gamefish is legal in TN or not. I would guess that unless they actually saw the individuals catch fish with the net they could only prosecute for over the limit and under length fish. As for folks receiving tickets for fishing without a license yes they are issued regularly, the local paper around the lakes list them regularly.

Lindley gauge shows a little jump but already falling back. Pomme gauge shows no change. So unless something happened further up the drainage and just hasn't got here yet, shouldnt notice much change at all. Still rolling 3500 cfs for right now, but expect to get cut back to 2800 cfs sometime soon.

Always a bad deal when someone drowns. It does seem like the Elk has been the hot spot for it this year though.

I can't say that I like them, but never lost sleep over them either. Would prefer a clean river bank.
-
And then you have guys like me who by virtue of our profession are trained that the left/right bank is always referenced by facing down stream, thus the left bank is always the left bank. However I understand exactly what Bill is saying. Don't be idling or drifting down the middle when there is fog. Its been a while but I remember the fog being very volatile, seemingly solid, then loose, then gone. Also remember standing up a few times and my head would be above the fog, very disconcerting and cool all at the same time.

I wouldn't have any problem asking/telling my relative that he is welcome in my house but his firearm is not, especially if he keeps having issues controlling it. I don't mind telling relatives not to smoke in my house, my house my rules. They then can make their choice whether or not to come to your home or not. I often don't make a very good proponent of the NRA. In my mind I often have a difficult time balancing the constitutional right vs. the public good. There are plenty of folks who carry that I wish wouldn't at least not around me, and plenty of others who dont but if they did cary I wouldn't think twice about it. The best tactic the truly rabid anti-gun folks have is to divide and conquer, as long as they can keep gun owners fighting amonst ourselves they have a chance. Without that division, and with the second amendment still there, it will be a very tough uphill battle for them as SCOTUS has ruled on more than one occasion, especially since the writings of some of the founding fathers made it quite clear why they included the second amendment. Personally I don't believe there will ever be a need for it in that manner (protection against the government), just don't see it happening. Thats enough for me, like some others said, none of us are gonna convince anyone else, and I have a depthfinder that needs installing, good sweaty job for the evening.

Mike, note that the last 2 days we have had rain that hit in the Pomme de Terre River watershed, causing raises in the river both days (Tue/Wed), so the river and consequently the water at Bolivar area will likely be muddy and may have accumulated some new debris, just don't know for sure.

Boring but tasty. My entire culinary life explained in 3 words.

I think I have more rocks eat the Ned than bass. But when a rock swallows it, you lose.

You fellers are still ahead of me, I have been fishing one time in March, was a good trip but that was it. Of course the Dr.s and their treatments had something to do with that serious lack of fishing. But come October I hope to change all that, might be like a sailor back in port after 6 months at sea.

One thing I am sure of is that criminals will be criminals even if all firearms were to suddenly vanish from the face of the earth. The same types of crimes would still occur, just with different weapons.

I am all for banning handguns to get rid of them, worked for drugs. We should also ban murder, rape and robbery while we are at it, sure would make things more safe.
-
Having read enough accident reports I can guess on how most of those accidental/negligent discharges happened , with the exception of the child reaching into moms purse they are all examples of poor handling, no question about it. I like gun stores, gun shows shooting ranges, I like guns. But be around those things very long and you will see more than a few idiots, poor to outright dangerous examples of handling, shooting, and often times outright idiotic statements. There are plenty of darn good men and women carrying out there, most often we don't know that they are, correctly so.

If the citizen had been a uniformed (or off duty) officer I would hope he would be smart enough to not chase them into the parking lot and yell stop, rather that he would have called for back-up with a very good description of the vehicle and diretion of travel. If there was a uniformed officer and the bad guy pointed a gun at him, then yep all bets are off. Even then the officer would have some legal protection in that he was attempting to do his job, the citizen would simply be an open target for being sued. My personal threshold for use of deadly force would be 1) imminent danger to my family. 2) Imminent danger to myself, 3)and a very very distant third, danger to someone else. Unless it is a situation where you know exactly what is happening it is begging for trouble, to get shot by another good guy, or a cop mistaking you for a bad guy etc. I am very comfortable around firearms, and properly carried worry not about them going unintentionally (but yeah I know it happens, most usually due to mishandling of the weapon). I know my limitations with a pistol, if we aren't close enough to be discussing fishing in a normal voice I am probably not going to be able to make good center of mass repeated hits. Having carrying concealed a few times I simply didn't like the way it made me act, I was not nearly as "free" to act normal, I felt the massive weight/responsibility of carrying a firearm on my person. Want to have a beer, nope, want to roughhouse with my kids, nope. Just didn't like that feeling.

Being a Hunter Safety Instructor, firearms accidents/incidents/ND etc. interest me. Any story behind how it happened. Type of pistol ? Modern ones shouldn't do that, however stranger things have happened, or it may have been an older single action revolver.

The article clearly states that he chased after the suspects and yelled at them in the parking lot. The threat to himself and others in the store was OVER. I fully and completely support concealed carry, but the legal ability to carry and the wisdom of when to use are two completely different things. Had I been walking into the store from the parking lot and the "good citizen" ran out of the store to stop them and a gunfight ensued, I might not have been overly upset assuming my hiding under a parked car worked and kept me from getting shot. If I had my family or any part there of with me I would have been pissed, because he put more than himself in harms way to stop a property theft. Unless he somehow felt they were going to come back in and shoot someone he was an idiot.

I preserve my marriage when taking my wife with me by having her stand near the courtesy dock and guard the boat while I back it in, launch it, tie it and park the truck. So far no one has stolen the boat while she was guarding it, she is that good.
-
In my never to be humble opinion the guy in the Academy store in Topeka made a very bad choice. He opted to use his concealed carry weapon to stop a basic robbery, nobody was in danger of being shot at the thieves were on their way out. Basically he risked his life to protect somebody elses stuff.

Food and women are not mutually exclusive. A nice meal, glass of wine, a few kind words and well it just gets better from there.

Heck yeah. Love getting into hybrids. And they are tasty too.
