    What's Cooking?

Nope them steaks was fabulous. Dad built a grill later on out of a truck rim, when we would butcher chickens a few would make their way onto that old grill. I grilled my first steak in a junked gas grill that I converted to charcoal in college.
  5. I used to always turn around in the seat to back up. Time and life have made that more difficult and I have had to learn to back with mirrors also. As for helping if you have witnessed very many busy days at the ramp you can pretty quickly tell who is willing to be helped and who will fight you for even offering. From the description I would have done the same Bill, slip past launch and be out of there.

    What's Cooking?

Growing up I never heard of a grilled steak. They were always floured and fried in a big ol skillet. Dang tasty too they was.
  7. Oneshot, if the predicted rains hit us it will pop up some more. Really really don't want that to happen but nothing we can do about it but adjust and continue to march.
  8. I keep finding myself going back for more, gotta be the garlic. The recipie is already printed out and saved in the special pile that get used often.
  9. We made the Tahini hummus tonight. Now I freely admit that I am not a big hummus fan, usually finding it tastes like nothing. As with all recipies I consider it just a guideline as we added some south African smoke (from trader joes, and one of my favorite spices), and a few other things. The finished hummus actually has flavor, almost a presence. Very garlic up front, delayed hit of cumin, with a slight bite and citrus hint. Using a nice yellow bell pepper and pieces of pita bread to dip with. I actually almost like it, everyone else is loving it.
  10. We were back to full release this morning. 2800 cfs. The mudline in the trees down around hermitage was courtesy of the big rains.
  11. Always plan for 5:30 to 6:00 sometimes it becomes later due to unplanned events. OK I forgot the hot dogs and they became charcoal, happy. Go into town and bring back a pizza from the gas station. and some beer.
  12. The news reported that it did apply to them, but I didn't really see that happening. Not if they had any chance of enforcement. Last report I heard was that it has been lifted anyway.
  13. How did the troopers catch the violators, news said that they had to follow the idle speed restriction as well. In my mind I am picturing a low speed chase similar to OJ but with boats. I was impressed that during the news cast with the lake in the background I only was one boat obviously breaking the idle speed restrictions. I hope its back down quickly and all is good. But there is sure to be some damage whether to docks, sea walls or even homes.
  14. Looks like she has been "Caught and Released" more than a few times. A regular tournament pro.

    What's Cooking?

Now you talkin Chief. Making me hungry, I can almost smell the cukes, onions and maters.
  16. Oh is still useable, unless you want to use the courtesy dock.
  17. Some good eating there.
  18. Looks like Truman is releasing about 250 CFS, compared to LOZ was at about 80,000 CFS. I look at lots of long range forecasts, just know that normally whatever it is will change long before it gets here. http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/Portals/29/docs/lakesites/BasinOperations.pdf Here is a presentation where they sort of explain the balancing act. Truman is only showing a very small outflow of 250 CFS which definitely won't hold them level. Loz should be back down in a day or two and then truman will release/generate whatever Bagnell can pass through I would guess. Should be plenty of electricity around for the next month or so. I look at lots of long range forecasts, but I also know what they are worth. One good rain maker and its gone.
  19. I like that, plus it stinks and may turn on you with no notice and make you stinky too.

    What's Cooking?

Man if I still had small kids I would be their hero with baked snapping turtle.
  21. 856.91 as of a few minutes ago. Am presently beginning the increases. at 500 CFS now, will go up 500 an hour until we hit 2000k then re-evaluate tomorrow.
  22. 864.58 in late September 1993. We don't want to go there again. Hoping to open up outflows today.
  23. Wrench I was going to say yes, but got to thinking and those times were for a Boats Keep Out buoy violation. I know of one tickedt issued for a no wake violation but it was issued by a COE Park Ranger to an individual who was doing the whole spin, jump etc. thing next to a campground inside the no wake area. Afterward there was a round of applause from the campers watching. If I see one of the troopers I will ask them about it.
  24. Actually carry a shovel in the back of my work truck, but never used it for that. Too much fun to watch and laugh. Sometime almost as much fun watching some of them back a camper onto a campsite.
  25. So either there will not be nearly enough troopers to enforce it or they will pull every badge they can and put them on LOZ, rest of the waters, on your own. There now that I got my pessimistic comment out of the way, time for a little optimism. Maybe the declaration will ring as wise advice to the ears of boaters and they will take heed.
