I am not gonna lie, if had a chance to fish with a piece of my own lung I would take it. I tried to get to.give me arm and shoulder parts the Surgeon removed but he said no, they get sent to the lab for diagnostics. As Agustus Macrae said "hope you didn't throw my leg away, I might want to make a walking stick out of the bone"

Since I had to be in the city for dr and infusion, I braved the COVID zombies and picked up a salmon fillet. So for tonight's supper for my unsunsuccessful deer hunter wife is, salmon seared on th cast iron plate on my grill, coated will some dulled butter, sautéed cabbage and bacon because there was a half head in the fridge that needed to be used, and some microwaved baked potato with extra dill butter and sour cream. Ain't a fresh tenderloin tossed still warm onto the grill but I think it will be ok.

I have sat in my wife's stand many time since she started hunting about 2001, think I have killed 2 there and some out of my stand before I couldnt get into it any more. I have set in her stand and watched a LOT if deer, one year playing wolf howls, cougar screams, and finally sasquatch howls from my phone to encourage a doe and to fawns to lleave so I wouldnt be seen leaving her blind. Realized I was mostly just escaping the house and taking a rifle because well one might attack me, or I might see a coyote or a stock running dog.

I hear ya, dad gone a long time, mom a few months, kids grew up and moved out, grandson not quite.old enough YET. The knowledge and.ability is there just the "fun" is missing, much the reason i don't hunt deer to speak of anymore, rather go fishing.

When I went through my Bone Marrow Transplant the Drs said the only way they would admit me I to hospital was if temp went above 99.5 I think, otherwise they said you Wil do better at home. Home for the 3 weeks was MIL house, had to be within 30 minutes of KU hospital. If possible (and obviously it not sometimes) home I always better, mentally, spiritually, and physically, especially now where a hospital patient is essentially in solitary confinement. I have a friend who is currently in hospital on a ventilator and the family is taking it hard, can't visit can't talk to him etc.

Lts of the local places around here are doing deer. More profitable for the amount of work. At least I think brings in a bunch of refer trailers and processes them separately. You can really stick it to deer hunters on the cost, usually they have a lot of it made into summer $au$age, Schrocks added a second smoker, think that gives 4000 lb capacity at a time! I do usually keep a hind quarter mostly whole to brine, inject and smoke.over winter.

Mid Lake mixed bag 11/12 - 11/14 with near disaster

Hillbillies with pocket knives can be hard on fish baskets too. Many years ago dad and I had a wire basket full of big truman crappie. We moved to a new spot, tossed the basket over the side and my teenage kid knot didn't hold it just sank out of sight. Dad and I just looked at each other, to his credit he didn't get mad and best me (should have probably). Several days layer we were fishing the exact same spot with a friend whim we had never fished with, we're telling him the story of the lost fish bask full of big crappie (weren't biting this particular day) and you could tell he was skeptical. About that time he looks toward the bank and says "what is that"? Yep the dang basket full of very smelly bloated crappie had floated up, I did get tasked to dump them things out, but that was fair since I lost them to start with. -
My dad's entire bass out could be covered by Jitterbugs, Lazy Ikes, Midge Oregon and a couple jointed Rebels. We caught a lot of bass and had a lot of fun with them. More often than not if we were on a short evening trip his tackle box was his hat. Put an extra lure or 2 in his hat and put it back on his head. Never got a hook in his scalp either, not sure how.

We cancelled a trip to Michigan, wife's family ended up in quarantine, so probably for the best. Hope you BIL recovers quickly and fully.

I debone deer, no need for a saw to process deer. What I need is someone to cut up the big chunks into grinder size chunks. For some reason that downward push in cutting up meat and my new shoulder parts do not work together well. Can easily lift up a 5 gallon jug of diesel to put in tractor but try to push downward to even make chops out of a nice pork loin and my shoulder screams. Fortunately my wife hasn't pulled the trigger on any deer yet so I haven't had to really give it a workout.

Wife hiding from rain in her deerstand. Grandson and dog Watchung tv and probably sharing scrambled eggs and sausage. Me I am having some over easy eggs, a slice of muenster cheese, pre cooked sausage patties, and salsa. That will get your system jump started on a rainy deer season opener.

Best bird dogs are ones seine else feeds and takes care of. I suspect Larry could.benefit from the occasional application of Happy Herb. I do enjoy some of his stories though.

I am hoping to meet the group if agents that are the jack booted thugs this weekend. Maybe we can eat cinnamon rolls together. Or they can arrest me for doing nothing, either way.

It is odd that the MSHP wouldn't want us old, one armed guys who have trouble walking to the edge of the woods and back on their crew. Me I will happily sit back and tell them if they want a cup of coffee to come by any time day or night, coffee is only a couple minutes away from being ready. Heck give me some warning and I will make breakfast, hmmm might never get rid of the LE guys then! Only time National Guard ever needed to come by and check on us, mom sent them off with a pan of cinnamon rolls she had made that day. With hillbillies you never know what you will find, might be starving and living in a shed, might be fat and happy and have a pig in the smoker.

Way back in the 70s probably my mom caught one that was huge. The nose placed in the crook of her elbow and the tail went to her fingertips. Granted she was not a big woman but dang that fish was, wouldn't even let us take a photo of it. We just cleaned it and went on. I do remember dad making sure it was on top of the others when we loaded out. Always someone around to ask if ya caught any good ones, oh a couple and point the bucket.

At first we dismissed the marks as bird strikes, but the number of white bass show in up with it sort of makes it different. Not enough herons to hit that many and only white bass. Muskie would hit the tail I would think and leave marks top and bottom. Maybe Dutch can get a few pics today.

The smiles say it all! Well done.
-
Several we caught had "the mark", always near the dorsal fin. Several I have seen others posting pics of have it too. Man I hope it ain't a precursor to a die off again, that would be a crying shame.
-
Dutch, seems everyone has been catching good whites, even guys fishing from the bank. 2 weeks ago I got into them way up the river, good, drag screaming whites. Good to see them back, niw if they can just avoid a die off for a few years.

Well i want to hear the story. I had a squirrel.I had shot and put in a game pouch come.back to life and to say it was unhappy about his situation would be a gross understatement. I have never really thought about the psychology of any of my fears, just know I have them and for the most part can control them when needed.
-
No question they are a hoot to catch. I have caught thm from ponds on a fly rod with IIRC a small grasshopper for bait after stalking them in the shallows. Have caught them on a crappie rod (actually my biggest on rod/reel) and since crappie weren't biting and I had nothing better to do than fight him I did. Guessed him at better than 15 lbs easy, on a 5 ft crappie rod and 4lb line, the drag got a lot of work that day. I have shot them with a bow, snagged them, even shot a few out of a pond with a rifle. I like carp and in a few more years when my mobility takes a dive I will pursue them again. I will become the new much lamer version of Oneshot, unless he outlives me! Which is quite possible.
-
That is one thing I remember about cleaning carp, it looks lie you have sacrificed a steer.

The Twilight Zone had some freaky stuff. I laughed the movies, Saw 1 - 27 or whatever they were when my daughter was a teenager, but dang if some of the Twilight Zones would have come on I would have slept with the lights on for a week. And at the.risk of agreeing with FW monkeys are EVIL period. Chimps too. Thught oddly enough Gorillas are cool and Orangutans and awesome. Must be some childhood memories of Clint Eastwood and "Clyde".
