  1. I have had my issues with the albright knot on the leader connection. I went to additional wraps and it seems to be working better.
  2. Honestly I have never even heard of it. I do get some line twist but it's not a big deal and a couple times a year I "untwist" it. I do use braid.
  3. A few years back I remember some talk about zebra and quagga mussels and the different depth they would tolerate. Some discussion afree that, maybe some interbreeding or ZMs were dping well at deeper than originally thught they would. Seems like the lakes in other areas have gone through a boom/bust cycle with them, they super populate for a while then die back and finally settle in a more or less stable population, or ateast one with much smaller population swings. I am curious how a common carp with their soft mouths are able to break zebra mussels loose to eat them, but several studies I have seen indicate fairly high numbers of them in the stomachs of Common Carp.
  4. Ground hogs are quite clean and decent eating. Think big squirrel. Chicken Fried Steak is so thing I often order in strange resturant to see if I want to go back. Like you they are never so bad I can't eat thwm, but if they can't do a decent CFS and gravy I am not wasting any more time on them.
  5. There are several thing that no matter how they are cooked, no matter who cooks them, I am not gonna eat or even think about eating them. Some I have eaten once before others I just ain't gonna do it, and being a well fed American I don't have to.
  6. Nice jack, long rascal too.
  7. I love me some "blood filter", if seasoned with some good stuff and cooked right.
  8. Very few things are good if not cooked "right", many a fine steak has been ruined by a few extra minutes on the heat.
  9. Several times, while not bad, I nevery saw any that even remotely looked like pork ribs. Eggs sacks used to be one of my favorite things to eat. Never ate any from a buffalo, but from bluegill or crappie them little yellow sacks of perfection coated just like a fillet and cover them with a fillet and they get crispy delicious and I am sure unhealthy. I also like to take walleye eggs and boil them in a small saucepan with a generous amount of crab boil until completely cooked. Strip off the membranes and mix with a small amount of olive oil and whatever seasoning you like, my favorite is cajun but have tried Greek and few mixtures. The flavor is good but the texture is tough for some to get past on these, sort of rubbery little balls.
  10. I wish I had a chill pill. Those who try to yatch slap folks sometimes wind up in worse shape than someone who got slapped on their yatch. Buy a plastic ball bat, cut off the ends and suddenly you have a pee funnel and no longer have to slap any yatches.
  11. I am fully aware of the laws, and it wouldn't bother me in the least for it to be extended another month.
  12. Guess I am not very good at the bucket list thing, never really thought about it much. Usually I just vow to fish more this year, the more good intentions I have it seems the less I actually get to fish. But if I were to make a bucket list, I would like to catch a halibut, a goliath grouper, and a shark. But more likely I will be the guy with a 5 gallon bucket with a couple walleye, or some crappie, white bass or bluegill, reading posts of folks who go catch cool fish. Also weirdly I would like to catch a snake head somewhere.
  13. Far and away the worst places I have seen are some of the accesses during snagging season, even he ones who do throw it into the water, some of it floats and usually floats up against the shore. Have seen them tossed literally into the launch lanes and left. I have to.put on wader and go get them, they were a bit ripe to say the least. Giggers I do know the agents do work late but bad giggers are tough to catch, you have to be there when they take out and the guys who know usually operate from a remote, private, or out of the way ramp. I would live to see a huge list of gigging poachers caught, I enjoy the occasional gigging g trip and despise the poachers. I wold live to see a closed season for keeping bass on the streams through the spawn.
  14. Wish I could get them to stop following and taking my crankbaits when walleye fishing. Always something isn't it. Good problems to have.
  15. Mmmm the rack of buffalo ribs them rascals would make. Fire up the smoker.
  16. Catching 2 muskie in a trip is pretty good.
  17. Dams are many and varied. Some can be removed with little ill effect, others are big enough or important enough that any talk of removal is nothing more than an acrademic exercise, which isn't a completely bad thing. The academic exercise can shed some light and viewpoints on a very touchy subject. I will limit my comments to some of the smaller . The biggest hurdle for most dam removals will be the cost and size of the project, it is very expensive and requires a variety of permits or blessings from agencies depending on the location. Something that occasionally come up with dam removals is the sudden release of the accumulated silt, mud and or gravel. While it obviously doesn't come down like an avalanche there could well be a variety of pollutants or contaminants trapped in that material. It is an interesting topic for me.
  18. BH if I ever get some free time I will contact you to see if you still have an arrow two. Would like to go ahead and set my recurve up for a bow fishing bow.
  19. Fillet that big thing, run it through a sucker slammer to score it, shake it in a good spicy mix and fry in hot oil. In another pot fry up some thin sliced taters, lay out some white bread, and picante sauce. Be sure to call me ahead of time soni can get there in time to make a sammich with the crispy fillet, taters and picante sauce. White suckers, Hog mollies, red horse all delicious. Used to catch them out of lower Taneycomo on red worms when I lived in Forsyth, Mmmm good.
  20. Awesome, like seeing kids on the creeks.
  21. I still have a PSE Kingfisher bow I was gonna make into a fishing bow but just haven't done it. Too much fun to sling arrows at the big bale of hay with.
  22. FYI do NOT type "leech porn" into a Google search to see if you can find a photo for wrench, just dont.

    What's Cooking?

Love the bark on that Chief! I must apologize for not being ready to take photos tonight, really didn't expect it to be photo worthy. With my wife recuperating from her surgery, and it being our turn to cook at Sunday supper with friends, I opted to attempt Chicken Cordon Don Blu. Yeah I am pretty confident is isn't spelled right. Chicken breasts were huge and I had to split them before i pounded them.out thin, seasoning was salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder, to which I added a little Old Bay, cause I like it that's why. Rolled them up with the required ham and Swiss cheese, wrapped tight with plastic wrap and chilled hem for a while. 2 heads of cauliflower, cut into edible sized pieces and drizzled with Italian flavored olive oil, and a package of dry Ranch Dressing mix. Chicken rolls went into the flour, egg, then panko (which I had toasted in a skillet earlier to a golden brown), and onto a baking sheet, 20 minutes later I put.the sheet tray of cauliflower in as well and went to making on sauce. Butter, garlic, flour, milk and shredded parm cheese. With my wife calling instructions and our friends trying to help me. End result, dang good. Ate way too much, did have a spinach salad to attempt to offset the cheese etc. in my arteries. I forsee this one coming around again at friends supper night.
  24. Those fish usually are not in very good shape to say the least. I think those easy to get to places get fished a lot, but not by "fishermen", mostly by guys with a fishing pole. Someone who can work a lure or jig may do well while a throw and wind guy might not. And then some days those throw and wind guys catch the heck out of fish, go figure.
  25. Don't tell me you are a member of the European Possum League? I have heard that they are becoming a "thing" now.
