Question? How many fly fisherman in our area?
MOPanfisher replied to MoCarp's topic in General Angling Discussion
I think I would rather have a fishing partner in yoga pants than one wearing a flat brim ball cap. I honestly don't know why it bothers me so much but it does. As to the original question, am I a fly fisherman, nope don't think so but I do enjoy fishing g with a fly rod occasionally and would probably do it more if I just carried it more or knew how to fish a streamer for whites. -
I am working on fall garden right now. Pulled and tossed all the squash plants to make a 15 x 30 or so spot and then tilled up another dead spot both for turnips, will likely mix in some mustard, spinach or some sort.of greens too. Much smaller area than I normally plant but more than enough room to provide turnips for me and everyone I know. And since the Good Lord saw fit to give it all a good soaking I opted out of brush hogging pasture to have a go at the pig weeds etc. In my canteloupes, several nice looking loupes about softball size, since they went in late they are doing well. Didn't get it all weeded but all I could tough it out for. Since a slight mishap with the tomatoes a few weeks ago they havent dine much. BTW tomatoes are extremely sensitive to herbicide, a tiny amount of Crossbow left in an improperly rinsed sprayer plays heck with them. Fortunately I have maters in about 3 locations. Most of the garden has languished in a state of benign neglect since the tomato incident, but cooler weather and rain in August has me back in he mood.

Selecting A Truck For Fishing Boat...
MOPanfisher replied to DLM84's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I had a 97 F150 with the 4.6 v8, and before that I had a V6 ford Ranger 4x4, Ranger had enough power, but not enough "butt" nor room. And the mileage was not much different either. My truck now is a 2010 F150 v8, 4.6, but has the 6 speed transmission. Much nicer and has more low end torque than I have any need of. Averages about 18 on the road will get up to 20 or a bit better on long open road, or less pulling say a uhaul trailer across the country. -
Love to see kids out enjoying the trips, regardless if they are fishing or not. Some of the best trips I had with my kids started as a planned fishing trip to the creek and ended up with the rods in the truck and us splashing and laughing like lunatics as we caught crawdads and played in the water. Most excellent sir.

Selecting A Truck For Fishing Boat...
MOPanfisher replied to DLM84's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I ended up buying a full sized pick up simply because as you said the little ones are just too limited. Plus you can buy small beater cars for driving backk and forth to work for under a 1K pretty easily. Drive them till they are no longer reliable sell it and repeat. My little Corolla make rhe 50 mile round trip to work most every day. Check engine light and all. -
Can't see it real well, but almost has a grass carp shape, more torpedo like, but could just as easily be a common.

I have exactly 3 inches in my gauge, doesn't appear there was a lot of runoff here, judging from my pond, just a good deep soaking rain, and cool temps. Unbelievable in early August, but no complaints.

I am not in a hurry, he will make a mistake when I am available to take advantage of it. Every couple years another one moves in, not overly worked up over him except digging their holes causes my sheld to settle. Besides you got to have something you are competing against, just to keep life interesting.

I have done it during fish fry before, if they are roughly the same size, unless you are paying close attention, it is near impossible to tell. The more seasoning yiu put on them the tougher it is to tell as well. However they are still delicious, just think of them as a crappie that can reach double digit size.

I was gonna say I would be eating that rascal. I was gonna go through he picnic tab of maters this afternoon and make some juice to put up. But it was storming and the lilly livered border collie crawled into my lap, so we just pulled the lever and napped the afternoon away. Tomorrow is another day! There is a ground hog under a shed about 100 feet from my front door, so far he is just raiding the compost pile, but having played the game with them before I know he will decide fresh is better. One morning he will make a mistake and we will start the cycle over again.

I have not been cooking much lately, but tonight I got home, wife was napping and there was a package of polish sausage on the counter, obviously planning on my grilling them, pffffht. Sliced them up and browned them in a skillet abit, found some rough looking g little yellow squash, chunker them and added to the skillet, then a couple handfuls if some little bitty tomatoes from a plant my wife just had to have. Darn little things are tasty bit no bigger than my thumbnail, so they got sliced in half and added, finally a half head of cabbage that was languishing in the fridge made its contribution, added some Cavenders seasoning and some sprite for d glazing and steaming because it was close by, covered with foil and VIOLA, hillbilly ratatouille, or whatever you want to call it. Sliced up some nice ripe maters, and set out cottage cheese. Supper is served.

Maybe it's just the catching something that is a little different from the norm but walleye fishing can be addicting. I don't dedicate my whole year to it by any means but during the times where the type of fishing fits my skills I love it. No they aren't the fighters that hybrids are but a few white bass or a hybrid caught as a "consolation prize" on a walleye trip, well nothing wrong with that. I do seem to bleed more walleye fishing than most kinds of fishing, but am finding ways to minimize that front wearing a very thin glove to using the gripper pliers. Grilled walleye fillets, or the golden brown fried fillets sure are a pretty good thing too.

I am kind of liking the idea of cubing the fillets up and boiling in crab boil then serve with a spicy seafood sauce or even a sweet chili sauce.

Line for Spinning reel
MOPanfisher replied to DADAKOTA's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I am like FW, back reeling makes me crazy. Was a good useful tactic before drags became good quality, but not for me. I keep my drag set loose nought that it slios on the hook set, I can quickly add pressure with a finger if need but tougher to reduce drag pressure quickly. I have finally figured out how to get my leader to mono knots to hold and still mostly am using a leader, if it breaks off I don't mess other it, it just tie directly to the braid and keep rolling. -
AWESOME. He will always remember this, and someday when someone else is in need he will be there for them. That is how good things grow into great things.

I saw and read that on Facebook yesterday. My biggest I guess shocker in reading it was that on a single patrol down one river he was able to make that many cases for spearfishing. Granted it is probably the prime time of the year for it, but it does show that it is a problem. Sadly I suspect that like those who routinely poach deer, catching them, and punishing them doesn't seem to stop them. However those who are not die hard violators might take notice.

Yes please. 2 with whatever side dish is offered.

Except for the drum it looks like a fish fry to me.

Oh noes! Another threat to the smallmouth population!
MOPanfisher replied to moguy1973's topic in General Angling Discussion
You can paralyze a snapping turtle if yu just reach into its mouth and grab it pink wiggly tongue. Yeah that's it. -
Personally I have no issue with the way Missouri regulates it. No problem with the take of rough or non game fish by methods like bow or spear fishing. While there may come a time when we are stuck with having to fish for carp as the only species that will survive, we aren't there yet. If they are stocked and managed in smaller urban lakes it's pretty easy for MDC to establish specific restrictions on those smaller waters.

If it's on facebook it must be true right? Like the photo of a sunken pirate ship in 100 feet of crystal clear water supposedly found in Pomme.

Table Rock Buoy Removal and Massive Boat Wakes
MOPanfisher replied to Browning Guy's topic in Table Rock Lake
Possibly one of the saddest and truest statements I have read, with the exception of MDC folks not fishing. Every one of them I know or work around are fishermen and hunters, including biologists and agents. -
Awesome, just what every place needs is a looney. Always good for business.
