    What's Cooking?

They turned out pretty well, greens still had a slight crunch to them, not so soft they just vanish. The bacon and little maters were a nice add. The left overs I added a dash if balsamic into and ate them too. Oddly enough either setting for a while or the balsamic or maybe rhe little maters, had given it a slightly sweet flavor. I had intended to add some beet seed, spinach, lettuce and mustard greens to the garden when I planted the turnips, but was already late with it, and the rains were only hours away so I have lots of them to eat now. I do love good dark greens, fresh, wilted, sauteed, on a sammich, whatever.

    What's Cooking?

Breading news and a late addition. Went out to feed the yard dog and waled past a small sad.cherry tomato plant with several small marble sized maters. Picked a handful and sanitized them by rubbing them on my shirt on the way back to the house and into the mix for the turnip greens they went, why not.

    What's Cooking?

More turnip greens on the menu tonight. 3 slices of good bacon rough chopped, some green onions I found in the fridge, a few capers because I like the flavor it adds. Sautee it up in a big sauce pan, then just befor serving add some water and vinegar and steam it basically like wilted lettuce. Accompanying it will be some pan seared chicken tenders, and rice. Tenders are seasoned with some.ozarks fried chicken seasoning I found in the spice cabinet, and a bag of microwave ready roasted chicken flavored rice. Dessert is a bowl of apples picked up in the orchard and cooked down with cinnamon redhots. Man it smells good already.

    What's Cooking?

No pics tonight because I didn't want to pause. Wife called and asked if I would be home for supper, said yes. Got home and saw a big bowl of fresh, tender little turnip greens. Of couse the big bowl cooked down to barely enough for me but oh my were they tender and mild. Could almost feel the healthy flooding into my system.
  5. There are a few times when an on board charger is handy for me, once a year we go to a place where the boat gets parked outside, about half the time it rains. So I plug an extension cord into the on board charger, wrap a plastisol bag around the connection, add some electrical tape and make a waterproof connection. Then run the cord under the barn door and plug it in. When it's in my building at home about one out of every 3 or 4 trips I use a regular charger simply because the cheap on board one might not be charging it fully, and I like to see the % displayed. As for a battery I usually buy a NAPA brand one because they are close to my work place and give me a good price, I want to say group 29 but don't remember if that is the starter or deep cycle.
  6. Nice big bodied rascal.
  7. FYI, Pomme de Terre dam has resumed normal operations, out has been re established at 50 cfs.
  8. My drink of choice tonight is sparkling lemonade and coca cola mixed. Is delicious and refreshing. Any alcahol and I would be asleep already.
  9. Dan, come Feb and march, work the dam, and some main lake points near the dam. Throw the vaunted clown rogue, ( of couse i general can't catch squat with it), or throw a shad rap or a jig and keep at it, sort of feast or famine those months.

    What's Cooking?

Have only seen it on TV.
  11. Well dang.
  12. Wow, sounds and looks like you have been busy and had a good "harvest". Sometime a shot that destroys the hearts ability to pump blood can result in a very sparse blood trail. Excellent work though.
  13. Looks like a juvenile black rat snake.
  14. I will be the official OA judge. Send me one of your fruitcajes, I will eat it and report back!
  15. glad you are healed up enough to get back at it. Good luck to all.
  16. Just in case it will make a difference in how or where you fish, the outflow from the dam will be 0 CFS by Friday afternoon and will remain at 0 CFS until probably Wednesday the 19th.
  17. Well welcome then. You have moved in probably 10 miles or less north of me. There is plenty to explore between Stockton, Lomme, Truman and LOZ, plus a few creeks and rivers. Nice deer racks too, that quality is fewer and further between around here but certainty not extinct.
  18. I don't bass fish much so my knowledge of them would be less than useless tp anyone who is in a tournament, but I did ask a guy who won a small local tournament what he caught them on, never even crossed my mind him not wanting to tell me. He replied we were fast trolling 12 inch plaid colored worms. LOL, OK then.
  19. You guys are killing me, off work today and trying catch up on work around home, amazing how much sweat and Tylenol it takes with my son off to college. But reports like these are making me twitchy. What area of the lake. Only areas I know anything about is Browns Bend (60 or so MM) and Larry Gayle and very little about about the Larry Gayle area. Hunting seasons can wait if crappie are hitting.
  20. While I don't particularly cate for paw paws, paw paw bread is delicious. Al, did they turn color when cooked.
  21. Size wasn't great, and then say they are on 11 inch black crappie! Plenty big enough for me. That's what I am waiting for, tossing a 32nd Oz jig as far under a dock as I can, and having one hit it within a couple feet of drop. Sadly it's going to be a couple weeks before I can try them again. Thanks for the report
  22. Admittedly it's tough to tell distance from a camera, but yep it appears to be pretty close to the dock.
  23. A loooonnngg time ago I worked in both hunting and fishing depts. I was knowledgeable (so I thought) but actually learned more from folks working there and customers that came in than I knew. Still.remember one individual who gave me a quick lesson in disassembling and re assembling an AR, had never even seen one before.
  24. Don't make them beg Smallie, skewer one, I hear they are delicious!.
  25. Many of the workers in the fishing section at BPS in springfield are way past youngsters. Most of the time I like to prowl around on my own finding stuff but in the last couple of years I have been unable to find some items and had to ask a salesperson, they shuffled along right to them. Even the younger folks working the depth finder counter have been pretty good at providing information. I would say the gun counter is the weakest, but it is more likely that they and I have different biases. Not sure anyone even works in camping though.
