  1. I know I repeat this a lot but, having had bass fishermen, white bass fishermen, crappie fishermen, trollers, catfishermen, jet skis etc. encroach where I was fishing any number of times I just don't get anything more than slightly annoyed anymore. There is nothing you can do, they are perfectly legal and yes they have the same right to fish the area I do, so what benefit is it to let it get to you. 9 times out of 10 even when they are encroaching they are moving fast and go right on through and don't really bother me other than the annoyance factor. Amazing how many times I will catch a fish before they are even out of sight. Some areas are worse, Sapps Landing on the Pomme Arm of Truman is fairly narrow with lots of stumps along the edges. Many times in the fall we have been working the stumps catching nice keeper crappie, as boats trolling for white bass go up and down the channel, we talk to them on every pass, even showing them crappie we are catching, but they happily keep on catching white bass, fairly often we will catch as many whites as they do while crappie fishing. Everybody has their own way of fishing, and everyone has a different view of what encroaching on another person is. Don't let it ruin a perfectly good day fishing.
  2. Pomme has been tough for bass the last month or two it seems from reports. Although I did see some photos from someone who was on the river below the dam in a kayak, and caught some nice ones. The water will cool down and put them on the feed surely.
  3. Bummer, sure is a tough life for bees any more.

    What's Cooking?

I had venison tonight, sorry no pics though. Loins with some S&P, and wrapped.in bacon, grilled to a beautiful.mdoum rare. Honestly it needed a little more kick of some kind. Sautéed Bolete mushrooms from my yard, gave 2 more wal mart sacks of them to friends and he has been dehydrating them but saved enough to Sautee for a topping on the loin. Friends did the loin and shooms justice. Though the blueberry sauce intrigues me.

    What's Cooking?

6 pounds of ground venison, no added fat, 5 diced onions, 3 boxes of Carol Shelbyville seasoning, 2 cast iron skillets. Having a community celebration tomorrow at our church. Will be burgers and dogs on the grill, so ya gotta have chili for to ping right. Besides I get to keep the leftovers.
  8. Curious, was it still running when it went in? Reason I ask is a few years ago we had one of our work vehicles decide one night it needed a swim. Wasn't running at the time, we assumed it was history. The auto dealer we took it to drained the oil etc. No major parts replaced. And basically no issues up to the time it went back to GSA a couple years later. By contrast th very same vehicle in an attempt to cross a deeper than thought flooded ditch, sucked up water through the air intake and required major repairs.
  9. Many having worked some of the vehicle in the lake incidents the idea of a kid in a car seat in the cab of a launch vehicle give me the willies.
  10. Wow, that went south quickly. Glad you are OK.
  11. Wow, nice wally.
  12. Very Nice!
  13. The only thing I have ever been asked is my age, (LOL not recently though). Although when I would buy .22 LR ammo they would ask if it was for a handgun, I would always answer nope its for my machine gun. Only once did that ever interest any of the checkout folks. Only reason that asked that was because handgun ammo required you be 21 yrs old, rifle ammo was 18 yrs. Whatever. Heck I buy powder, bullets, primers, loaded ammo etc. nobody asks me anything except how I want to pay.
  14. I saw a pic of a couple decent crappie from near bolivar landing today. Otherwise it's been pretty quiet. A few more weeks and as the water cools they will move up into the river again along with white bass chasing shad.

  18. Thank goodness you used your leg.
  19. It might be a case of which provides the biggest benefit to the public in general. An officer who spends 8hrs a week/month providing education or patrolling a section of town where the population can spot a LE unit the second it appears. If the choice is strictly enforcement over education then we need to pull out the DARE officers and put them on patrol also. I would much prefer to see private groups doing the training on proficiency but who do you want teaching the legalities and ramifications of firearms use. I don't begrudge the money I paid to take the training and get my permit, or the $ I spent on my firearm, or $ spent on ammo and such that is one of my hobbies but not everyone has that luxury.

    What's Cooking?

Joe, its because for most of us the food is much better looking than we are. Chief may be the exception and the better looking one of us, sad isn't it.
  21. Lancer I don't disagree with what you say. Although I may not have read it well enough I don't remember anyone mentioning carrying weapon as a God given right, but maybe it slipped past me. This law did not change where you could carry a firearm, just that a permit is longer required, it hasn't allowed you to carry to a Cardinals game, or into a federal courthouse, or to be in posession of a firearm while intoxicated etc. The lack of training is my single biggest concern with the whole thing. I would absolutely love to see groups whether (ideally Law Enforcement) providing classes for the public whether they carry or not as to the legalities involved in use of a firearm, would like to see the cost be much lower or even free if the agency could swing a class a month or stretch it out untl say 25 people has signed up then hold a class, might be weekly, might be monthly whenever a set number have registered. Many many folks are quite safe when handling and using a firearms, and very proficient with their use, however the legalities of when and why you can use one are a different story.
  22. Glad to see you back on the Forum Sir. Hope you are healing well.
  23. There is absolutely zero comparison between stealing a TV and defending one self and family. This law did not change any rule of law, it did not give anyone any extra right to shoot someone, it did not take away anyones right to a trial. the incident on the river has nothing to do with concealed or open carry. It actually sounds like you are confusing the carry law with Castle Doctrine, which still isn't close to what you are describing.
  24. NOT even close in my mind. It has nothing to do with my or anyone's ability to wax anyone. It's about the ability to defend ones self and family. I value the "rule of law" very much and it hasn't been changed by this law, I had and still have the legal right to defend myself and family should the unlikely event arise that I need to. There has been a lot of comments from some of my family about how I will be going to rougher places and willing to face off against bad guys because I am armed. For me it has been the exact opposite, if I am carrying (which I don't often do) I am much more aware and conscious of where I go and what I do.
  25. JD I agree, the class was simply to satisfy the legal requirements. The hunter ed class is as well and I have been a hunter ed instructor for almost 25 years. There are still the golden nuggets that we try to pound into their heads.
