  1. I am sure that water level was a popular topic among those attending unfortunately the meeting topic was the Master Plan revision which has no changes to water level. We see that a lot at public meetings, established to seek input on "A" and everyone come to talk about "B thru D". Hopefully they took at least a few minutes to address the water level though.

    What's Cooking?

    I love barley in soup.
  3. I like Jeremiah Johnson and haven't seen The Revenant yet. But the way I look at movies, even ones based on some truth is its entertainment period. And if Survivor man doesn't like it so much the better. Wonder what the turtle man would say.

    What's Cooking?

I gotta remember to take photos. Over the weekend a group of us put small (40 lb) feral pig into the smoker. I was amazed at the difference in the different cuts, hams were good smoked pork, same for loins, front shoulders better and ribs fabulous but the absolute best part would be analogous to bacon. On a pig that size not much of it but oh my goodness it was good. And to think the last one I cleaned I threw that part a way because there just wasn't enough meat on it to fool with. Hard to take photos when 10 guys are attacking it like a school of piranha.
  5. Not correct here is no longer a 50 percent discount for annual passes. The reason is that with display of the Golden Age or America the Beautiful Senior Pass you don't have to pay any day use fee. Same for the golden accede and America the beautiful access passport. There will be some plastic hang placards to display the goldenage/access pass like an annual pass.
  6. Awesome. Though I did laugh a little at the hair on the tongue, I was always told doing certain thing would cause hairy palms but not tongues. Good to hear things are getting better, it's a great feeling to go to the dr. And get good news.
  7. Crappie fishing on all lakes seems to be year class dependent. Some years 10 inch plus fish are easier to come by than short fish, other years the opposite, sometimes it changes in the same year depending on conditions. this fall fishing LOZ we couldn't buy a keeper crappie, others in the same time period were talking about catching good ones. Thats how it goes. Some days are short days some are keeper days. Thats why they call it fishing.
  8. from the article it sounds like something Greg is doing some research but no actual action being proposed at this point.
  9. Depends on where I am fishing what I am willing to keep. I believe more lakes are 9 in minimum than are 10 inch. Some years 10 and above are everywhere, other years you have to sort a lot 8 7/8 fish to get a 9. I agree with not changing the min length, and this is the only mention of it I have heard so I think it is just winter kibbetzing.
  10. Cold weather shouldn't affect the zebra mussels too much, they will obviously slow down eating and respiring etc., freezing will kill them if exposed, don't know if still in water. Heat likely is harder on them. Realistically they should be in TR, Stockton and Pomme however none identified yet that I am aware of.
  11. I thought I was the only drum whisperer. As for eating they aren't bad. Used to fillet and eat them at times. Sometimes they would be fine other times they would be very rubbery. Don't seem to have a lot of built in flavor, so some good spicy mix is a help. As for bass I have nothing against spots but I would much rather catch smallies. Never considered catching a 5 lb channel while fishing as a bad thing, just delicious.
  12. Are the Bundy clan breaking law, yes they are no question about it. Does the State of Oregon and or the FBI have the authority and or ability to take them down, sure they do. Is it worth the cost in lives and material to force their hand as opposed to letting them stew in their own juices for a while to see if they collapse on their own yes it is. If the FBI goes in hard like Waco or Ruby Ridge and essentially kills everyone who even appears to resist or are just present, how does that play out in the long run, complete win for the Bundy Clan cause, and a major black eye to the FBI. I would be my last dollar that the FBI has undercover agents in the area, hell I would be ashamed of them if they didn't, but I simply don't believe that they are intentionally harassing locals to hope they dislike the bundy clan more. The FBI has nothing to gain and everything to lose by doing that, the locals already want them gone, never having wanted them to start with. you can say a lot of things about the FBI, (jack booted thugs, high handed, overly arrogant etc. etc.) but one thing they aren't is stupid. The absolute last thing any federal agency wants is t see it all end in a blaze of glory.

Sorgy Chief but the thought of pimento cheese gives me the shudders.. All I can vision is pimento loaf cold cuts and that pimento stuff we used to put on celery sticks. I can eat blue cheese straight, pickled pigs feet right out of the jar for a gravel bar snack, but pimento cheese, just can't do it. Mostly in my mind I suspect.

    What's Cooking?

Well a simple pork loin roast with carrots and taters in the crock pot will never win any prizes but won the approval of my almost 2yr old grandson. His favorite part is the baby carrots then the meat and finally raters. Wierd little feller.
  15. I saw a photo of a boat once rigged to do it. Big wide boat with two seats up front. One guy in each seat holding shotguns. Looked like a great way to get killed but I am more than willing to try it if given the chance.
  16. The federal does own land, period. 5he fact 5hat the Bundy group doesn't like it has no bearing on that fact. Being that it is federally owned land there are resteictions, and yes they will change over time, generally more restrictive. No different if I was renting pasture land from my neighbor and he decided I could only graze red cows every other month, I can either live with it or stop renting. I have no legal recourse that without that rental land I cannot make a profit raising cattle. The Hammonds want nothing to do with the Bundy clan. The single thing that still KS to high heaven is the federal judge who required that the Hammonds must go back and serve more time. In my opinion the judge should have said, "The Hannes have served their time and been released, the mistake was not theirs, I have decided to set aside any additional time for the crime that they were already punished for". I will also add that while the federally owned land does not provide tax revenue to the county where located, there is also something called PILT, which is Payment In Lieu of Taxes, that the federal government pays instead. Sadly I got tired or sorting through PILT information on my phone, and have failed on adding the link.

    What's Cooking?

Grilled cheese, sourdough is great, a couple slices of muenster or havarti or mix and match. I like to put a little thin sliced roast beef in the middle and butter the outsides and hit it in the skillet. Today at work was soup day, made a big pot of zuppa toscona, spicy and regular sausage, half dozen slices of bacon crisped up, thin sliced taters, onions diced up, chicken stock, plenty of heavy whipping cream and right at the end a package of chopped spinach. Dang good stuff. Now I have to go make a Sammich for supper.
  18. Well when I accept the check for the 800 million lump sum payout I am gonna dress up in full hillbilly regalia to accept it. I will however buy a brand new pair of hickory striped bib over all to cut off into shorts. (My all time favorite summertime fishing outfit). Gotta admit that I didn't even know how to buy a lottery ticket, but I handed them $5 and they handed me 2 tickets and a dollar back.
  19. Well you kind of is Oneshot. But yeah I will take suckers over a slimy trout any day.
  20. I am gonna say, COE would only clean up their own areas, i.e.campground access the marinas and other accesses are almost certainly on their own.
  21. Federal land has rules. You can fight against them and lose or work with them, most government agencies will help yout through the hoops if asked. Don't like the rules you don't have to graze your cattle on the land. Want to argue that the Federal Govt can't own land, it's a losing argument. Bundy is a thief and now a terrorist. Right now with all their group bottled up in Oregon is the time to round up their cattle and sell them to pay their 1 million dollar outstanding debt. I understand that Govt over reach is an issue but being stupid isn't gonna help.
  22. Because of Mitch I have to tell a story from my little town many years ago. One of the local low life types gave a young girl a Marijuana cigarette, the dad, a good old boy, walked into the local watering hole, spotted said low life, pulled on a pair of old leather work gloves and proceeded to beat the living crap out of him. He was arrested and taken before the judge who after hearing the whole story find him $1 plus court costs and asked him if he learned anything. He replied I guess not because next time I will probably beat him to death. The judge threatened to fine him $2 plus costs if it happened again. Nobody ever gave that girl a toke again.
  23. I gotta admit that would be a blast, no pun intended.
  24. Its pretty obvious that eradication is unlikely unless there are some very isolated disconnected pockets of them. Its also obvious that they must be reproducing in more places than are shown due to the wide distribution. Some of those waterways are not even connected so there had to be multiple "release events". Even grass carp in places like small university lakes/ponds have proven difficult to manage and control, as they jump like salmon when attempting to seine them. The one I am aware of resorted to Roetenone to kill everything. Like most invasive species they are here to stay, its a matter of control, education, and learning to live with them. Hopefully they won't make it into most of the COE lakes, but give it time and there will be some. Grass carp are already in most of the lakes, escapees from farm ponds but the silvers and bigheads I am not aware of any populations yet.
  25. As everybody says not all cops are created equal. As for immediate back up, not hardly, lots of places especially in small towns or rural counties backup may be an 30 minutes or more away on the other side of the county, and require them to wake up someone. Calling in a MSHP for backup can also take a while, never know who the back up will be, sometimes its a Cons. Agent, sometimes MSHP, occasionally the only LE around is a State Park Ranger. Small towns seem to either have a basically good cop, or a turd. have seen both in my small town, from the ones who would stop and talk to the minors hanging around town to the ones who live to arrest them for minor violations. Yeah their jobs are dangerous but that is what they signed up for, if they cannot handle it, there are other jobs. I have always been a suppoorter of Law Enforcement but certainly don't support the actions of everyone who wears a badge. Seems like if you claim to be a supporter of LE then those who don't like cops seem to think you are supporting cops who abuse their position, or shoot unarmed suspects (not always what it seems), everone wants to be polarized anymore no more common ground (or common sense sometimes either). I certainly wish we lived in a society where cops were only needed when you called them, but that just isn't the world we have.
