  1. I don't think catching one is the idea. They are not game or a non game animal to be used for sport or food. Simple observation would be a worthy goal.
  2. I agree, beautiful rod. I don't know if I could buy a rod without casting it first.
  3. I get a kick out of the contrast between the beautiful and glamourous image the gaming industry portrays in it's advertisements and the reality of overweight retirees sitting at machines pissing away their savings.
  4. I would be interested to know what a class on "How To Find A Job" would involve. Back in the day you could get a job by looking a man in the eye and telling him you would like to go to work. A firm handshake would seal the deal. More than likely this would take place in a tavern. Now days you go through a series of interviews with people who have have titles like "Talent Specialist" and talk about feelings.
  5. The self deprecating report was every bit as informative as a success story and a whole lot more entertaining. Thanks for the chuckle.
  6. Man, I'm envious of you getting out for weekday trips. Good luck and let us know how it works out. You might want to keep your distance from guys who are concerned about your shorts.
  7. What's with the apparent lack of trout near NRO? Is that poaching central?
  8. Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE or sometimes shortened to UHMW) If UHMW lined jet boat hulls become common we'll loose what little peace and quite low water conditions give us.
  9. Good story. It brought back a flood of memories, nights when whoever was the first to fall a sleep was doomed to pay a price. I also recall a snipe hunting stunt that every new kid was subjected to. It had something to do with going in the dark woods and shaking some rocks in a bag while the rest of the gang would stalk and tackle the poor kid.
  10. I appreciate you not being a typical outfitter and if had a chance I would love to try your Novacraft. In a funny way you made my point because outfitters have to satisfy their clients need for a stable but unresponsive boat.
  11. I met plenty of people stupid enough to think this way. Hell most folks think deer cry when the loose their momma.
  12. The rental idea will never work. Rental canoes paddle like wash tubs and the whole idea is to float streams that are not serviced by rentals. Who wants to share the river with 200 bozos boats. Having your own boat is a special thing. We have seven in our household and could use a few more.
  13. Great report. Bourb at dawn, busch stadium in the evening, that's hard core, especially with the rain delays we're likely to see tonight.
  14. I once had a neighbor who would shoot every squirrel he seen in the huge oak trees in his.back yard. Every year more squirrels. You have to get rid of the trees to get rid the squirrels.
  15. Hanks Patterson's methods are truly inspiring. The next time I'm confronted with an angling dilemma I'll ask myself, what would Hank do? WWHD
  16. I've camped on some awfully low gavel bars on 11 of myself. I can't stand to stay at one of the float camps, too dark and claustrophobic.
  17. The river looks great. Did you get the big rain? It's kind hard to get a good nights sleep when your camp is only a few feet above the river.
  18. That's a fine fish and a darn good fish picture too. It's great to hear that no spots were caught.
  19. Oh, I’m sorry I overlooked that part of your comment, too bad he couldn’t be used as an example. I don’t’ know much about the Rose Holland Derby other than avoiding the area every year that weekend. Is this a carry dead fish around on a stringer contest? I would think that kind of derby would be limited to children? is it a charity event?
  20. I too am well acquainted with this person’s quest for angling notoriety. The story is sad and pathetic; I would very much like to hear details of the arrest.
  21. Yes I use the store bought leaders but I use them for butt sections only by cutting them down and adding a perfection loop. For my bass rods I'll sometimes use the bass leaders and do the same with the loop but a lenght of appropiately sized maxima works just fine. it's just a matter of balancing length and stiffness.
  22. Wow! You shroom hunters have it going on. I had no idea there were so many edible varieties. Keep the reports and recipes coming.
