    I did an overnighter on Big a few weeks back, first time in 10 years. We managed to have the river to ourselves and had some pretty fair fishing. The Big isn't my first choice but it's well worth keeping on the radar.

    Holy crap dude, I'm glad your ok. Your right, those of us who spend a lot of time in boats tend to get lackadaisical. We all need to be careful all the time.

    The soundtrack from the video would make good promotional material for the local chamber of commerce. Kidding aside it is a sad day and I hope someone learned a little about how dangerous boating can be.

    It has been proven time and again, the best way to prevent flood damage is to stay out of harms way. As everyone who lives and works near our rivers that have flood control reservoirs know, dams only protect some areas from some floods. A Union reservoir would not have prevented this flood: The extreme east-central Missouri flash flood of 6–7 May 2000

    I ran across two dudes drifting down river Y in one last month. The boat had a 20 Jet on the back, 24 volt trolling motor on the front and rowing oars in the middle. One of the few times I seen a boat that I truly admired.

    It's been a crazy summer. Every time a plan a trip I have to go shopping for a river that's not blown out.

    I drove by the new entrance for the first time last week, in my opinion nothing to be proud of. The rusty steel is probably COR-TEN, in a while the rust will stabilize, won't rub off and protect the steel for a very long time. Well maybe I am proud of the wise use of materials.

    The narrow and shallow riffles on most Ozark rivers are not ideal for maneuvering a drift boat. The rivers that are large enough are hell holes of recreational power boat traffic. I would love to have one but I'm afraid it would only be used a few times a year.

    Your right there is another slug of water working its way down the Ga-nade. I kind of feel the same way, even if I have a better chance to catch larger fish I really don't want fish a high muddy river, especially for a weekend. Looks like I'm going to have to pick a river out of my comfort zone for the next overnighter.

    Did you try swinging or stripping a soft hackle in front of them? Hatchery rainbows get all stupid over a wet fly swing. If I'm in front of midging trout that won't bite I look for different fish rather than trying to out smart them.

    By the time Niangua get to Lead Mine its a mature river but it's best to approach it like a headwaters float. Don't go around blind corners without scouting, be prepared to back paddle and its probably not a good idea to make one more cast when approaching a shoal.

    I couldn't agree more. I've made a few mistakes thinking a could work around boat traffic before it really sank in that recreational boating has turned my heaven into a hell. Being limited to weekends only I've just settled for the occasional trip to the fringes of navigability, access and habitat.

    Myron's a good guy, he lent me a canoe to finish my trip one day when my cedar strip busted a seam going down the falls. When I brought his canoe back the next day he wouldn't except anything.

    Look at the bellies and the coloration on those fish. To me that's proof that the best place to raise trout is in these rivers not concrete raceways. Excellent fish.
