  1. Don't give up flyrodman. Soft hackles are easily my number two producer, only slightly behind beadhead buggers. Goodness a person could write a book about the countless presentations. (Selvester Nemes). When tieing or buying Brian's example above is the perfect form of a soft hackle, less is best.
  2. For me the zone is the look on my partners face when their line tightens.
  3. Interesting report, quirky river, quirky fish.
  4. For stlfisher or the mother?
  5. I have seen fish go after birds a couple of times, ducklings and grackles. Never seen it from that view.
  6. The Smallie fishing held up pretty good in the streams I fished this year. I did avoid my home water creek due to the super low water. I'm pretty anxious about what I'll find next summer and dread having to deal with a few years of landing dinks and launchers before things rebound, if they rebound.
  7. I can second Gavin's suggestion, you can't beat that area of south west Montana for a great western trout fishing experance. With so many great streams the only real problem is narrowing your countless choices to something manageable.
  8. A very well filmed joke at that. Thanks for the link.
  9. If we could get a self correcting situation with fishing pressure, If we could get a couple of good water years and if we could all keep our mouths shut... That's a lot of if's.
  10. Great report. Yes, these four walls are killing me too. This is the SAD time of year, time out of doors is necessary for good health.
  11. Isolationism vs global trade, hasn't history decided this question?
  12. My brother and fished 21 for a couple of hours Sunday, 3 fish landed, one big enough to put up a bit of a fight. I need to remember to bring a heavier rod, I could hardly reach any of the fish with a 5wt.
  13. Your right Al, it's often more about the place and the people. I realized this some time ago when I stopped fishing alone so much.
  14. Most canoe rentals will shuttle vehicles. Lately some of the rentals refuse to drive private vehicles due to insurance requirements, that complicates logistics.
  15. Despite popular opinion many rods do migrate when winter approaches.
  16. Thanks for the report. And your boat and motor survived the low water.
  17. Let us know how you do.
  18. I haven't pulled the trigger in two years for that very reason. Few things are more gut wrenching that wounding a deer then following blood drops for miles.
  19. Great way to present antique tackle. I have a rod and reel dating from the 30's. It belonged to a prominent Missouri senator. I've Been thinking of a way to preserve / display it. Is your reel also from the 30's?
  20. The one pot belly pig I met was as personable as any dog I've met, maybe more so. Our society doesn't except dogs as food. The question: what is food?
  21. Great report, thanks.
  22. How long is too long when storing fuel?
  23. Yes they do, and I'm sure they will stick as many as they can. I don't guess it's as bad as it use to be, I think we have a MDC agent who actualy patrols now.
  24. My views very much follow Winston Churchill’s quote” Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains.” As I become older and more financially secure I too see a large percentage of my income disappear into the void of good intensions and no accountably. I would love to embrace the central conservative points of personal and fiscal responsibility but it’s hard for me to let go of intellect, reason, environmental stewardship, tolerance, religious freedom and science to do so. This weekend it was the pointer 78 sp in ghost minnow that worked best. A lot of fish followed the bait to the boat, they took it just as it I was going to lift it out of the water. It was as though they weren’t that interested until they thought the bait was getting away.
